I think all things Asian are snubbed by Oscar. Oscar is mostly a white award.
Ang Lee is honored by Oscar, but mostly for work in white dramatic films. Crouching Tiger won for best Foreign Film, but that was a token award. I think Hollywood looks at Asians the same way they look at American Indians. Asians are a National Geographic magazine subject. -

Sadly I have to agree. Between the ridiculously beautiful novel, adaptation, and how the actors brought those precious characters to life I was very disappointed at the lack of respect at the Academy Awards.
I don't shut up!

not true there's Asian stars that have won academy awards Miyoshi Umeki won best supporting actress in 1958 for her stellar work in the movie Sayonara opposite Marlon Brando. Maybe the studio didn't lobby enough for Ms Ziyi to be nominated and other actors that work prodminantly in other languages have won Oscars Sophia Loren comes to mind.

Yeah but asian actors/actresses have NEVER won MAIN BEST ACTOR/ACTRESSES AWARD. Only best SUPPORTING awards. As for Ang Lee h5b4e won a award for best director which is okay for the academy award since it is BEHIND THE CAMERA.

Very few asian actors get nominations, though Ken Watanabe got a nominiation for The Last Samurai.
I thought for Crouching Tiger that Michelle Yeoh or Ziyi Zhang should definitely have gotten a nomination considering they gave top notch performances. For Memoirs, I thought Zhang's performance was respectable. I think this is just the academy having some sort of bias against asians sometimes.
I mean to get a best picture nomination, the film most likely has to be both popular and critically acclaimed. How many foreign language films are so much better than the ones that get nominated and don't even get a nod? It's just bias. -

She was most likely ditched in favor of Keira Knightley in P&P, which is understandable since P&P was much better reviewed than Memoirs.
I don't think her being Asian had anything to do with it. Her spot was shaky at best, considering her film had only a 35% on rotten tomatoes. She just missed out to a better performance. -

What is Oscar ? Of-Special-Connection-American-Relationship. Their awards are NEVER fair. How many times have you ever seen a foreign actress won Best Actress in a foreign language film ? I only recall Sophia Loren; and that is because she hab68s a husband with good connections with the Americans.
I seldom pay attention to it. The other 3 are the real WORLD film awards, Cannes, Berlin, Venice.
