"A bad week for Zhang Ziyi. Besides pulling out as investor/producer/star of Snow Flower and The Secret Fan, Zhang Ziyi has been under fire the past week for another controversy. The charitable foundation that she formed in the aftermath of the May 12 2008 Sichuan earthquake has fallen under the scrutiny of the internet denizens. As you may recall, Zhang very publicly berated some festival goers who were unaware of the tragedy and made a plea for contributions at the 2008 Cannes Festival and herself pledged to donate a large sum for the victims. Netizens looking at the public records of the foundation and the Chinese Red Cross, registered in the US under her managers name, discovered that the foundations income and assets was zero. This raises the questions of whether a) Zhang Ziyi misdirected contributions, b) actually collected any funds, or c) donated any promised funds herself. Netizens in one popular forum called for a boycott of Zhang Ziyi endorsed products. Zhang Ziyi issued a statement stating that most of the pledges were from foreign contributors and reminded them to honor their pledges. A reporter received the following English email from someone:
"she received close to 1.7m USD or more than 10m RMB in funds from overseas sources with mostly checks into her personal account on and after her Cannes fundraising. Although she claimed that 5m was pledged but she got about 1.7m. That is what she meant by a lot of people did not pay up In her statement. However, she has kept those received funds in entirety in her personal account for 21 months since the earthquake without putting them into her foundation accounts. (Actually, even if she had had deposited those funds into her accounts, that would have constituted embezzlement according to laws anywhere in the world as she was not an authorized charity at the time of fundraising so she must immediately submit those funds to the earthquake area) in fact, she never seriously proceeded with the "Deyang Resource Center" project. Both Deyang government and Care for Children Foundation announced that they were not aware of such a project. So the simple fact is: Zhang Ziyi kept the 1.7m USD in her own accounts and failed to provide it to the earthquake area. Her excuses are false. Unbelievable. It has been almost a month and Ziyi Still hasn't provided any evidence where the money has been kept nor was sent to.
Vivi Nevo, Ziyi Zhang's ex-fiance said through a friend that Ziyi Zhang raised $2M at the first fundraising event, and these money has been kept in her personal account, possibly in California. He has no awareness of how much Ziyi raised in the following earthquake donation events.
Furthermore, China majr media has been kept quite on this scandal although Media from Japan and Taiwan has officially reported this scandal. -

I do not know the exact reason. But first of all, Ziyi Zhang is not representing China. Jackie Chan and Gongli are much better actor/actress.
Some rumors say that Ziyi has under table deals with media. Nevertheless China media is getting better as at least we can discuss this scandal on some websites.
You can get more information on a Chinese internet by the following post named "Ziyi Zhang, where is the earthquake donation raised from public?". This post has received 2.4 millions clicks and 27K replies within less than a month. The public are irritated by Ziyi Zhang's fact-proven faking news.

You are right. But Ziyi Zhang hasn't shown any evidences yet. Vivi said through a friend that ziyi raised $2M from a single event. Her previous media news disclosed the total amount maybe $5M.
We might need help from IRS and FBI to investigate into the bank account. -

But isn't that the case with most news relating to ZZ? Take for example some idiots on this very thread who said that they hated her because they heard she dishonoured the Chinese by wearing a Japanese Flag dress, despite the fact that this incident happened with Zhao Wei and not Zhang Ziyi. None of the reason why some Chinese hate her has any real merit. Sleeping with directors? Squatting in public? Dating a rich jewish man? Supposedly hating bein2000g Chinese? Being a race traitor for starring in American film? That's the kind of "news" that belongs in the magazines of bored housewives.
I know this charity scandel is a lot worse, but I'm not going to think less of her until articles stop using the word "alleged". -

I liked Ziyi very much before as many other fans did. The recent charity scandal has nothing to do with dating a rich jewish man as they have been dating for three years. Million fans are waiting for her to reveal the truth.
Is it really difficult for a charity to reveal where the donation was sent to? If so who would donate in the future?
The major media had kept quiet until yesterday. CCTV reported this scandal from an impartial point of view. The public consider this is a milestone that finally it is allowed to discuss on major media instead of being censored or manipulated. The media censorship is another reason why the public were irritated.

Her agent said they are contacting the Care For Children for future donation. The money is still with Ziyi Zhang. Further more, the Care For Children seems to be a fishy charity and had nothing to do with earthquake. Further truth will be revealed. Where has all the donation been kept and how much did they raise? Still a mystery.
