yeah thats probably what happened. i mean she was 11-12 when she left, and hasnt done any acting since, so she probably left to lead a normal life, instead of becoming a child star turned tabloid cover drug addict .

I think they recast the role because they suddenly turned Rachel into a troubled teen, someone who is sullen and unhappy and takes drugs, etc. Yvonne Zima excelled in playing a sweet, lovable Rachel and it would have been difficult to accept her with such a different personality.
I thought it was ridiculous that they changed Rachel into such a loser toward the end of Mark Greene's time on ER. The show had become such a soap opera by the time this character died. A lot of people quit watching the show about this time, including me. -

Right, because there was nothing soap opera-y about ER before Greene died.
There's nothing different about what happens now that didn't happen then. I know because I'm an ER fan who's watched since day one. -

She was such a great addition to the recurring cast in the early years of ER, when her character returned and her role recast, the character wasn't as interesting, the other actress did ok, but it just wasn't her, it didn't feel like her. Yvonne did an incredible job and could have played an even more dramatic version of her character if they would have kept her. Have you seen The Long Kiss Goodnight? Her role in that starts off sweet, but as the film begins to get closer to the end her character changes just a little bit to show she can act more than just a sweet little girl. The last listing I saw her in is the Crap-Opera I mean Soap Opera, The Young and the Restless, I really hope she returns to show she is much better than one of those actors.

=sweet, lovable Rachel =
haha rachel played by yz wasn't so sweet and lovablei remember a very surly and rude rachel (to susan lewis when skating, to her teacher when mark went to get her, and at thanksgiving with elizabeth and david). YZ would have been great as teen rachel. Halee Hircsh.a blue eyed blonde from two brown eyed parents? not as believable as Yvonne was. a shame she couldn't have continued and then been in the last episode.

Apparently there was a new tv producer join ER and was looking for a better actress to replace Yvonne for upcoming 16 episodes without Yvonne or her mother finding out. When her mother Marie was reading newspaper and came across that the new producer looking for a replacement actress. They both were1908 deeply hurt especially Yvonne. Her mother stated Yvonne was very loyal to ER because she appeared there series for 7 years and it mean alot to her.. The producer only wanted to boost tv rating and that was why he was looking for a better actress Hallee Hish after the audition. I wasnt very happy either which mean no longer watching Yvonne in the continually episodes that I was desire to see more of her. I think Yvonne should not have been replaced and fans would have watched her grow up in the coming years.
