I know you don't post here anymore but I need to add my observations as well to what you started.
but in Red Dragon it is barely touched upon.
I'm thinking the reasons for that are the connection the writer had to make with Hannibal Lecter. The marketing for Red Dragon was to allow audiences to see an origin story of Hannibal Lecter. People wanted more Hannibal Lecter. And although Lecter is touched upon in ManHunter, Lecter is not the focal point at all.
So when Edward cracks the case in Red Dragon, it is with emphasis and influence from Hannibal Lecter. They just HAD TO CONNECT Lecter as the catalyst in order to justify giving Lecter more screen time. -

Nice choices and def chilling. That Talos one when he turns his head - underwear changing time.
There’s a British horror anthology movie made in the 60’s, I can’t remember the name of it, but one of the stories has this really creepy looking woman in bed that is really unsettling. One of the stories had Joan Collin’s in it.
If you can’t say something nice, say something clever but devastating.
