And you keep saying "irreligious" NEWSFLASH Brightspark, irreligious is not even a real word, Your the only one who uses it.
"Irreligious" is a perfectly cromulent (and real) word. In the dictionary and everything. -

Atheist means you reject the concept of the existence of a god. Religious means you practice a religion. Deist you assume there is a God but he can't be bothered by these puny talking animals homo sapiens sapiens. Every human being has a sense of the metaphisycal, spirituality in any form does not mean a believe system with rules, punishment as such, living according to a religion. Not practicing a religion doesn't mean you're an atheist. You know only sith lords deal in absolutes :-). So for example I was raised as a Catholic, I later found that this religion was flawed and didn't agree with certain dogmatic principles excluding people from the grace of God. Also I found religion to be contra productive in dealing with real live problems in our world. It doesn't interest me since I was 12 or 11. However I'm not 'against' people finding strength in religion and if believing in a God made them a better person; well that's just peachy fine. If it works, it works. If you're Muslim be the best Muslim you can be, likewise with any christian or hindu, or whatever silly story you adhere to. Every human being has a sense of right and wrong (xept Psychos of course) so doing harm in any way to your fellow human brother or sister means your ideology has been perverted into a supremecist stance. I don't think of myself as a christian, but I do 'believe' in the message of christ, you should love your fellow man. World problems could be solved if we would only care a bit more for each other, right?
Conclusion; I find Sarah Shahi to be a modern american woman. I think she has values wich have it's origin in Islam, the faith of her childhood, we are born into a religious system most of the time. Like me she probably takes the best and well just skips the medievil mysogonist parts. It sure beats society filled with headscarves and sharia law.
Conclusion number two; is she muslim? probably not. But it's better not making it an issue, so as not to offend people, or avoiding the whole stigma thing in the media in the US. -

She comes from a muslim family, but that doesn't mean she is or isn't one. I come from one but i am not one. And lots of people pick and choose what they want to practice from their "religion" but that is true of any religion you are in.
I dont think it really matters. But as some one who knows how religious people can be about being in a lesbian show like L word, i wonder how her family looked at it, if they are very religious. Personally i think she was great in it, and since its her passion to act, its her choice, but still i wonder what they said.
P.S. she was sweet and sexy as carmen. And i really think she should be the lead in lots of movies. We all know she can act.

Has she said she's muslim or are you just assuming that based on her ethnicity?
According to national statistics, only a third of Iranian Americans identify themselves as muslims: the rest identify themselves as irreligious (which includes Atheist/Agnostic), Christian, Jewish, etc.
Seriously though, religion was created to help guide people, to know right from wrong and now it's the 21st century we now have laws, education, common sense. Religion is pretty much obsolete. -

I don't think so. She changed her name because she was embarrassed by the really long and weird name. People made fun of her in school. She is not ashamed by her origin but her name wasn't the right fit for her.

According to Wikipedia her real name is
Aahoo Jahansouz Shahi
. That's not really long, my full name is about the same length. Shame on those Texas kids who made fun of her normal Persian name. Aahoo means gazelle in Persian. A beautiful name in my opinion.
