duongdogg:
She changed her name because she was embarrassed by the really long and weird name. People made fun of her in school. She is not ashamed by her origin but her name wasn't the right fit for her.
According to Wikipedia her real name is
Aahoo Jahansouz Shahi
. That's not really long, my full name is about the same length. Shame on those Texas kids who made fun of her normal Persian name. Aahoo means gazelle in Persian. A beautiful name in my opinion. -

Shes not just Iranian.Shes Persian. Iran is the name of the nation which has a large majority of ethnic Persians, plus minorities of Armenians, Arabs, Jews and Kurds. Im not sure, but ide say 100% of the Persians would consider themselves Muslim.
As for her being Muslim..obviously she isnt. Her dad is Persian and her mum is Spanish. Unless her mother is Spanish Muslim (Which i doubt she is) then Sarah cant be considered one either.
Who cares anyway..shes stunning. Only reason i ever switch onto the L word. -

Her mom is Persian too. The mom's name is Mahmonir, which is a pure Persian name.
It should be noted though that Qajars are actually Turks, not Persian and are pretty much viewed as the worst dynasty ever in Iranian history. They and their descendants are very much hated because they lost so much territory (Azerbaijan, Armenia, parts of Turkey, Iraq, Afghanistan, Georgia, parts of Russia) -

Yes i had noticed that too. Its hardly a typical Spanish name. Also she could be Muslim - there is a community of Moorish people living in Spain you know.

for a person to be muslim their mom doesnt have to be one either. Thats a jewish thing.
And like everyone else said, she is not a practising muslim or atleast not a hardcore one, same as most american muslims -

I read in an interview that when she was younger she wanted to be like all the other girls in Texas and go to a catholic school and that her mom said because her dad was Muslim she couldnt. But I dont think she follows it.

Did she happen to mention a particular town or city? 'Cause your statement makes it seem like the majority of school age girls in Texas go to Catholic school. Having been born and raised in Texas (I've spent 22 of my 26 years on this planet there), I can assure you that the majority of us do not attend Catholic school (or any other religious school, for that matter).

To try and clear some things up, it would appear Sara Shahi:
Is ethnically half-Persian (father's side) and half-Spanish (mother's side).
Is of no particular religion though her father may have been a practicing Muslim who was born in a nation state called Iran that occupies lands that were part of the Persian Empire.
Is not "Iranian" because she was not born in Iran.
Is an American.
Is exceptionally gorgeous.
Dave's not here.
