Donald Trump once publicly speculated that Time would never name him the news magazine’s “Person of the Year.”
Now, the honor will be bestowed on him twice.
Time will name Trump as this year’s choice on Thursday, recognizing the president-elect as the individual or group deemed to have wielded the greatest influence on global affairs “for good or for ill.” To celebrate the unveiling of the magazine cover, Trump will ring the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange, a source familiar with the matter told CNN. Trump sat for a wide-ranging interview with the magazine last month.
Trump’s 2024 selection mirrors his first recognition in 2016, when Time named him Person of the Year after his unexpected rise to the presidency. This time, the unveiling caps a remarkable comeback and a resurgence that has the potential to upend modern American politics.
Despite the magazine’s dwindling circulation, Time’s Person of the Year remains an annual cultural touchstone and the distinction has become an obsession of sorts for Trump throughout the years. A Time cover naming him Person of the Year in 2009 hung in several of his golf clubs, The Washington Post reported nearly a decade later, though no such issue was ever printed.
Through his widely followed Twitter account, Trump regularly weighed in on the annual selection and amplified accounts suggesting it should be him. He criticized the magazine in 2011 for picking “The Protester” in a nod to the revolutions breaking out across the Arab world and the Occupy movement in the US. A year later, he said Time had “lost all credibility” because it failed to list him among its 100 most influential people of the year. Trump has also privately complained about the choices, in particular when Taylor Swift won in 2023. Trump has often been fixated on the power the pop star wields and posted, “I hate Taylor Swift,” on social media earlier this year after she endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris.

There could be no other after the year he's had.
But as Yermom says, it's hardly prestigious, given the crap that's adorned the cover over the years.

A green trucker jacket similar to the one allegedly worn by Luigi Mangione, the suspected killer of UnitedHealthcare CEO, has reportedly seen a spike in sales as internet frenzy over its appearance continues.
According to Complex, Levi’s sherpa-lined hooded trucker jacket, priced at $225 (around 4,500 pesos), is flying off the shelves after a Reddit user speculated it was the same coat worn by the alleged killer.
CCTV footage from the day of the Midtown murder of CEO Brian Thompson shows the shooter wearing a green hooded jacket similar to Levi’s viral coat. -

Seeing how un PC and misogynist he is I wonder if he is seething at being called a "Person," of the year.
Knowing what an asshole he is I would expect him to call it, "Man of the Year," if he ever brings it up in speeches or go on an hour long tangent to whine and cry about it not being called that anymore.

I don't know if he's ever said that, but I can picture him going off on a tangent in one of his speeches, saying something like, "They used to call it 'Man of the Year.' Whatever happened to that?"

Exactly.
I liked how those other picks made him seethe and that he, of course, wants it all to be about him.
I dunno who else they could have chosen but not him again.
He just won the POTUS again.
Not like he cured cancer.
I think if Kamala had won it would have been her and rightly so being the first woman POTUS and the odds were stacked more so against her.
As for someone else no one comes to mind but there has gotta be someone else who did something that had a greater impact.
Wasn't there?

and the odds were stacked more so against her.
This is true, the media was essentially a PR wing for her, gave her 95% positive coverage while giving Trump 95% negative coverage, all the while her and Biden's administration weaponized the justice department against Trump and had him wrapped up in bullshit court cases to keep him off the campaign trail. Yeah, it was definitely stacked against her.
Or she's just an incredibly fake, unlikable politician, even within her own party, and always has been.

Everybody was hating on Biden which transferred over to her because of blame for inflation, the boarder etc.
That is what I mean with the odds being stacked against her or any other Dem who would have run against Trump.
That is the way it goes in presidential races with a fickle public who just vote based on ads and sound bites instead of looking all that deep into it and I think this one was no exception.
