technically Sally Hemmings was only 1/4 african american. Her father was white and her mother was the product of a african american woman and a Brittish sailer and from what I have heard she did not look black and resembled her sister Martha-who was Jeffersons wife

Actually, Sally did indeed look black. Back in those days african americans b68were pure african, what I mean by that is, they didn't have any european or native american admixture that modern african americans have. With that said, pure african subsaharan africans at that, tend to have very strong genes. So its more likely that Sally resembled Halle berry as for as complexsion and facial features.

Sally Hemmings had alot of European blood in her-she was 3/4s white and from doing a report on the subject I read interviews that people such as Isaac Jefferson and others who knew her gave and they said that she looked more white than black.
