First of all, she was not hated by all the fans. And second, she got an offer to be a guest star on season 5 to wrap up all Vanessas storylines (obviously mostly the one with Dans book), but she declined. So it really was her decision.

Umm, Im a fan and I liked Vanessa/Jessica on the show. So no, not all the fans hated her. Accept that and move on.
And no, she quit, cos she didnt like what writers did with her character, and declined to even come back as a guest, so again, no. Accept that and move on too. -

I know she was mostly hated, but not by all the fans. I even made a topic about her, wanting to know why does everybody hate her. At least here on imdb. You know, im from czech republic, where Gossip Girl is quite popular and Vanessa too actually.
Its not like all the characters on all the shows are always well liked by fans, and yet theyre still around, cos theyre fun to hate.
I cant really blame her for leaving though, they really butchered Vanessas character in season 4. -

look at her career now, she's a hollywood superstar
