I'm sure it's the lightening used on movie set. Otherwise, if strong lights weren't added, the movie would be too dark to watch.
Oh please. Before the 2000s, Hindi movies never used this much lighting. It's because everyone uses digital film nowadays so filtered lighting and digital editing are the norm and everyone look lighter under that, especially brown people. Why do you think Salman Khan and Shahrukh Khan looked so much darker in 90s movies? And why Hollywood actors use fake tan and dark makeup nowadays?

Well let me say I am a Punjabi/Kashmiri Indian - and Indian is certainly not a race - most Indians look similar - but there around 20% of the population which have different genetics and look very different to each other.
Her dad is Kashmiri - have you even seen Kashmiri's? They certainly look nothing like the typical Indians - from some angles she looks different, but from some angles she can look Punjabi so it all depends.
Personally speaking I think she is very unattractive compared to traditional such as Aish Rai, Sridevi, so why Indians obsess over her is beyond me.

Have YOU seen Kashmiris? Most of them do not look that different from your typical Punjabis. Are you sure you're one?
I agree with the last paragraph, though. I don't see the big deal about her is, but we know how all Asians are fascinated with western-ish women (I added the -ish because we all know that a Keira Knightley type wouldn't appeal to most Indians, but someone the leans more towards Indians will).

Well I don't think you should say anything about ALL Asians being like that. I think White-Washed applies to all of South Asians and Middle Eastern people it is pathetic but true in many cases. However for Punjabi's - more specifically the Sikh one's this does NOT apply, maybe because Sikh religion consistently talks about not judging someone on their skin color.. I don't know. An example can be the Swedish or something (or Nordic) singer living in Punjab called 'Anita Lerche' and if you check out her facebook groups you can see no-one obsesses over her at all - whether as if she lived in somewhere else in India, other Indians would probably follow her on a daily basis.
'Are you sure your even Kashmiri?' - I find that comment patronizing, again may I redirect that question back to you? Your probably only thinking of some small known one's like the Nehru family, or Anupam Kher. I know of, and know many Kashmiri's and 'Indian' they do not look - they don't even look like the really white Punjabi's like Aditya Pancholi because their facial features are still different. Here are some Kashmiri's I know:
          http://www.flickr.com/photos/60925882@N05/5645425171/lightbox/
          http://www.flickr.com/photos/61573942@N06/5712486119/lightbox/
          http://www.flickr.com/photos/61739872@N04/5619974029/in/faves-61573942@N06/lightbox/
And although Punjabi's range in looks - most typical purer one's (which means people with more pure Punjabi genes who are not mixed with Dravidian genetics) look like this:
          http://www.flickr.com/photos/33515509@N05/3121766837/in/faves-61573942@N06/lightbox/
          htt16d0p://www.flickr.com/photos/60925882@N05/5655721672/in/photostream/lightbox/
So yes the obvious differences between (even though before I said Punjabi's range from anything in looks a lot of the time but on average) the typical pure Punjabi and the typical Kashmiri is obviously different. And then most other Indians like Gujarati's tend to look like this:
          http://www.flickr.com/photos/61739872@N04/5654994080/in/faves-61573942@N06/lightbox/
So next to them Kashmiris look VERY different and nor do they fit the stereotypical 'Indian' category at all. So a better question is what are you on about? Don't talk things you know nothing about dear 🙂

I think I should and can say that about ALL Asians. It's even worse outside South Asia. Have you ever seen ads in East Asia and Southeast Asia? In East Asian countries, white models are in demand and all over ads, and in Southeast Asian countries like Thailand and the Philippines, the vast majority of the actors and models are mixed race (usually half European).
The Punjabi Sikh thing isn't even accurate. I know a lot of Punjabi Sikhs and many of them DO value fair skin and many of the fair ones are proud of the way they look. No one makes a big deal about Anita Lerche because well nobody cares about her. There's a French woman singing Hindi songs and no one makes a big deal about her either. Like I said, Indians love "western-ish" things there has to be some Indian appeal about them. Katrina is in between so that's why she's popular.
Spare me of your knowledge of Kashmiris; the Kashmiri that "you know" is just a picture you searched for on Flickr, not an actual person you know. How many Kashmiri Pandits or Kashmiris in general (non-Turkic mixed) have you really seen in real life? They don't look that different from your typical Punjabi. Of course there are differences, but not as exaggerated as you make it seem, especially by using a pic of heavily Turkic mixed one. And of course they look very different to people from a further part of India. That's like saying Bengalis, Assamese or other people from the Eastern part of India look very different from Gujaratis; it's a given. And they don't fit to the "stereotypical Indian category"? Anyone isn't relatively dark or stock-faced doesn't. Even Freida Pinto doesn't look "stereotypically Indian" to some people on IMDB because she has an angular face.
Lastly, take your own advice on not talking about things you know nothing about "dear." You pretty much established that when you said that not all Asians are west-worshipers when even people who aren't that familiar with Asia know Asians in general are.

I am just talking about Kashmiri's now - I am of Kashmiri lineage partially so I don't understand what your trying to prove. As for the record I know all of these Kashmiri men I posted - and if you want their facebooks be my guest:
              http://www.facebook.com/siddarth.tickoo
              http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=511918650
              http://www.flickr.com/photos/60925882@N05/5645425171/lightbox/
As for the record I am related to the first man, and I know the second and the third guy as well. So what are you trying to prove? I know it is the typical Indian mentality to sit there and contradict and waste time arguing about utter rubbish but the racial differences between Kashmiri's and Punjabi's is quite eminent. Kashmiri's (Including the Pandits) have Dardic genetics (Similar to the Pashtuns of Afghanistan) and not to mention also Kosher blood. Whereas Punjabi's are mainly Indo-Aryan, partially mixed with Central Asian genetics and then depending on which individual mixed with Dravidian as well - no genetic affiliation with Kashmiri's here. So please, may I quote don't try to educate me on something you know not much about. 'Heavily Turkic mixed' none of these are Turkick mixed, they are Pandits - the only Turkish mixtures in Kashmir are individual tribes who do distinguish themselves from other Kashmiri's. In general Punjabi's are diverse you get some which look like Aditya Pancholi, some which look Tamil Australoid, and then some like Jimmy Shergill.
Freida Pinto does look Indian to me - maybe you should get a reality check - again look at this Kashmiri song video:
              http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_Xl5jHBHO0
The differences within them and Punjabi's is quite obviously eminent - they looks more like Pashtuns of Afghanistan - especially the men.

Many People agree that Kashmiri's do not look Indian. Only the lightest Punjabi's look like Kashmiri People. This is a School in Kashmir showing typical Kashmiri Boys:
                http://www.flickr.com/photos/shadankhattak/345603232/sizes/z/in/faves-64608556@N03/
I can only see 2 which look Indian. The rest look more like Afghans, Syrians, more than they look like Punjabi's. The majority of Indian Punjabi's look like this:
                http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3531/4001398733_e5cb6bbc6c.jpg
And then around 20% Are generally lighter. Some of these lighter one's can perhaps sometimes look Kashmiri:

The rest of Indians such as Gujaratis, South Indians, Bengalis generally are very dark skinned. Kashmiri's don't look like most Indians at all. FYI: Are you retarded no Kashmiris are Turkic mixed. Most Kashmiris are Dardic like Afghans.

Actually, a few Hindi movie actors are actually getting fake tans like Neha Dhupia and Hrithik Roshan and even dark ones like Mugdha Godse; I think some of them are realizing that wearing white powder on your face is nasty and scary in real life.
As for Katrina, her real skin color, without the 100 lbs of makeup and extreme lighting, is tan. And yes, I've always thought she looked sort of manly, but it's just her jaw. She's not ugly, though.
