New Gracie

That is plausible. The show doesn't look like it is going somewhere, and Laura can probably work her way onto a GILMORE GIRLS like show by the time she is 14 or 15.
The only info I can find includes a quote from a Fox spokesman saying they were going a DIFFERENT DIRECTION with Gracie, which can mean anything. -

Fox's "Back to You" returned with a new episode and some tweaks to the cast. Weathercaster Montana (Ayda Field) will appear in one more episode, but the character will disappear after that. Producers and the network decided the character had run its course, according to the show's publicist.
They also decided to go in a "different direction" and recast Gracie. Lily Jackson takes over the role from Laura Marano. -

If you don't mind me asking, where did you find this information? I have been scanning the internet but then again I don't know of all the great sites to go to so if you wouldn't mind letting me know what website maybe I could use it for future reference. I hate the fact that it was FOX that made the decision to re-cast and not Laura's because they replaced her with a actor that looks to be 4 or 5 years younger than Laura plus in the show Kelsey is just getting reading to telling Gracie he is her dad, it's sad that they have one or two episodes together (Kelsey and Laura) along with Laura having a few minutes here and there but it was enough for me because she wasn't the main character. Now that I have gotten used to Laura she is now gone, I just hate it when a show does that, trying to make the show better could end up backfiring on them.

I saw the exact same quote, though I can't remember where, and it doesn't turn up on a search anymore. It was a very hard quote to find though. There is very little out there on the topic.
There was also talk of some complaints about Laura's acting in places, and while not entirely unfounded (she did seem a tad un-natural at times) I would put that more on her level of experience, the directing and the somewhat lame material she had to work with at times. Get the kid a few acting lessons if thats the problem. Some of the stuff she delivers very well, especially the more emotional stuff. (For one thing, during the studio tour she was altogether too interested in what was going on when she sould have found it mind numbingly boringher mom WORKS therebut that is a problem with the writing and the directing, not the acting. A more experienced actress might have said something, but when a 10 year old starts pulling that kind of crap, they are being 'difficult'.) She seemed quite natural in her main big part in the Sarah Silverman showI doubt the biggest problem was with her.
My guess is that somebody somewhere decided that the kid was the problem with the show, when the kid has very little to do with what is wrong with the show. Some of the best moments on the show were between her (laura) and grammar.
Anyways, it is network execs being network execs, and basically you take a show that doesn't have as big an audience as you like, and take a chance that you will gain more people than you lose by making idiotic choices like this. It is a desperate act, and it is the kind of thing almost always done by shows that get cancelled shortly thereafter. It's is kind of like skipping the part where your show is a HUGE hit, and moving straight to the 'jumping the shark' kind of moments. -

The recast should have been after the big reveal. We've invetsed in Laura. Where's the payoff? They cut Gracie's hair, and cut her height and age too. She does not look like a fifth grader.
A new direction? Like what? All I can see is wanting to keep Gracie 11 for a while, and a younger actress can last longer than an older actress entering puberty. Makes for an extra long year show's time. Great for cliffhanger endings.
I just hope somebody's telling Laura about all the fan outrage over her leaving, and fan support for her in general. Be a nice pick me up after FOX cut her loose. -

I am sure she can use the internet, and it would be hard to resist checking out what people are saying about you, 2000though I imagine most people tend to avoid it because some people can be pretty mean.
She actually has a really busy schedule for such a young kid, and I don't really think this show is going anywhere in the long run anyways. Too many screw ups, and changing a key character is on that list. -

The quote is from a collumn by Rob Owen, that appeared April 18 in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. You can still find it by by typing Laura's name into Google then clicking on the News tab and expanding to full results.

I've only just seen this show and the original Gracie - Laura was fantastic I'm sure the new girl is a good actress but I prefered Laura she was very good, funny and had good chemistry with Kelsey. It's a shame as I too hate when people change the actors playing a role it kind of ruins it for me too
