To whoever said that teena's voice wasnt as good as it used to be, It's true! Her voice is even better now then it was when her first album came out. I saw her perform yesterday and she proved that she is the IVORY QUEEN OF SOUL. She isnt a sell out she is what she is a great artist and Talent. She doesnt need anyone to write her music for her, she isnt some sort of generic Brand she is Lady T.
Teena Is Blacker th5b4en most of the other so called R&B singers, just because her skin is ivory doesnt mean she isnt Black, you dont have to be black to be Black. Brian Gumble aint that "black" neither is Al Roker, And Oprah these days. -

Im not Gonna lie I am one of Teena's younger Fans, But im an old soul. Ive seen old "bootleg" recordings of Teena when I was younger. My father twice a week would have me sing to Teena songs and study them up until the day before he died. My mother who isnt A Teena fan, and a Singer would wonder why Teena, why not Whitney, or Patti La bell. After she went with me to see Teena last night, she finally saw why my dad made me do that, because Teena is a talent. Did my mother come out of the concert a Teena Fan, HELL NO! but did she respect T Yes.
As for the race thing, Im Almost every major Race but Pacific Islander. Im not Majority Black but most people embrace me as being Black. My half siblings who are Panamainian they arent thought of as hispanic because they have been raised as black, they dont look Black but they Are BLACK. Teena May have to write on a piece of paper that she is white, but her soul is BLACK. -

I was reffering to whoever made that stupid statement after my first initial post. I'm sorry but Teena is not better than any R&B, soul, "real" soul singers I know and have listened to. This woman is a, how should I say this a biter.

I don't believe that black or white has anything to do with her style of singing. She lives the culture (which I admit is predominately black); she's sung soul music from the beginning AND 97% of her record sales are from black people. There are artists out there like Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera that sing "black" music because it's lucrative now BUT Teena sung it when it was dangerous for your career and she did it as well as anyone and better than most. Her soul is in the music and not in the color. Would it be better if she were to sing soul and come out giggling like a girl from the valley? No, this is her passion and she shows it. Honestly, she would have had a much more successful career if she weren't a funk/soul artist and sang standards.
I understand that you may or may not be a fan but discrediting her contribution to the genre is kind of short sighted, imo.

Don't hate!!! Leave Teena alone. She's been around black folks all her life so what do you expect. And she doesn't think she is black she speaks and sounds like a regular white woman. That's just like Mariah Carey growing up around alot of whites. Her daughter is biracial.

first thing you dont have to be black to sing R&B. since when did R&B have strict rules? but now as for teena. im sure she knows shes not black. she's just been singing around black ppl for as long as she has been in the industry. she's been singing R&B since she started her career. and as for the cash money. yea shes on the classics imprint of it so she still for the most part maintains her old school style. and she like black men(not to be mean but it's true). if you dont like her music fine. we are all entitled to our own opinions but just bc shes white and singing this kind of music doesnt mean she's a wannabe.

Man, I came to this board to share the Teena love, and what did I find? A relentless and narrow-minded hater. It surprises AND saddens me to see that people actually exist who feel that the great healing source of music should be segregated. for shame. Teena we love you and thanks for the music.

I agree, bealston. Teena didn't even deserve to have her first record cover not revealing what she looked like because of people like the troll who started this thread. We are much stronger than such ignorant trash & see talent from within not because of the color of their skin.
