My friend swears he heard this song years ago but I can't figure out who originally did it if he's right. Does anyone know? Thanks

No, Gavin wrote the song himself. It's personal hence the lyrics "a prison guard's son and a specialist's son". His father was actually a prison guard and his mom is a detox specialist. The song came out in 2003, so maybe that's why your friend heard it years ago. I can't believe it's been that long!
