Abigail Williams is an incredible role for Saoirse to cut her theatrical teeth on.
I've never really had the inclination, nor the appreciation for the theatre, to actually go and see a play, but I'd love to see The Crucible.

It's a very juicy role. Watch Winona Ryder try, a bit heavy handedly, to tackle it:

LOL I actually went to see this at the theater when it came out, Joan Allen and DDL were fantastic!

Great news!!! She will learn a lot, after all there would be no cinema without theater and with this great cast still. Sadly i wont be able to watch it, it would be great to see her as the villain.

What makes me happiest is she is breaking free of those ethereal waif roles - The Host, Violet & Daisy, Byzantium, Stockholm P, even Hanna to some extent.
Eilis in Brooklyn isn't one, but especially not is Nina in The Seagull or Abigail in The Crucible. Far from it.

                  With this and
                  The Seagull
(albeit on film) she's going the actor's actor route. I don't think she's ever done stage before. Sophie Okonedo is a
                  stage magician
and Whishaw is a massive talent as wellboth of these individuals actually starred in different incarnations of
                  Hamlet
, both of which were successful. I'm very surprised and excited.

Okenedo is terrific on screen too, she just hasn't had too many opportunities to show it to the masses. "The Secret Life of Bees" and "Skin" were both extraordinary performances.
"they should give nicole kidman an oscar for being able to show any emotion after THAT much botox".

Great find! Thanks for this Jlent.
It's great that she is doing theater. This helps her to hone her skills even better. I like Sophie, so it's great that Saoirse will work with her as well.
I can't wait to see reviews for this eventually. It's great that she is broadening her roles as well.

                      Poetswan
. It really is a big meaty role for her. She is basically the lead.
Granted everyone in this play seems mad

One of the worst times to transfer out of NY. If I had stayed I could have attended those previews. Sadly I live in the Bay Area now.
If anyone will be in NY around that time, perhaps they can consider going to see Saoirse live and informing the board of how she is live?

Where at? Do you go to school there? I used to live near 120th and Broadway.
Maybe you can get an autograph/picture with Saoirse. She took one with my ex-gf and her brother a long time ago (my gf posted it on the board in the early days of like Jill, Scast, mystery, DCI77, BrionyTallis, being the most vocal regulars). I'm sure it wouldn't be difficult to get given how nice she is.

Nah, I'm from New Jersey. Were you at Columbia?
If I wait by the stage door I probably won't ask for a photo with her. I'd be too shy. But the friend I'm going with might.

For a little bit, but I didn't finish. Oddly enough one of my professors was Oscar nominated for Brokeback Mountain, and greenlighted Atonement..? I think? Can't confirm, so don't quote me.
It's easier than many people think to get a picture with an actor if they are FRIENDLY and have a reputation for being so. If there are archives to this board the thread is probably still there, it was posted under my namegf and I shared the same account a lotand had a bit of responses to it.

You studied with James Schamus! I've watched a few of his lectures and his film about money. It's a shame he doesn't write anymore, his credits are extraordinary. The Ice Storm and Crouching Tiger particularly. I had no idea he was a professor. Lucky.

Unfortunately James was fired from Focus Features for being "too indie" with the indie arm of Universal and so now he is a lonely professor and occasional producer. As head of the studio, he was responsible for winning the bidding war over
                                        Atonement
                                        and for financially backing
                                        Hanna
(Focus is a distributor primarily) ("The film was co-produced by the US Holleran Company and German Studio Babelsberg, with financial support from various German film funds and the main distributor, Focus Features, which holds the copyright to the film" -from Wiki), which, without his greenlight would've stalled the project which was time sensitive from the actress' age.
These are some films that he distributed as the head of Focus Features before his ousting:
                                        Lost in Translation
                                        21 Grams
                                        Pride and Prejudice
                                        Eastern Promises
                                        Atonement
                                        Milk
                                        The Kids Are All Right
                                        Jane Eyre
                                        Hanna
                                        Moonrise Kingdom
                                        Dallas Buyers Club
If only his career could've lived to see
                                        Brooklyn
, I'm sure he would've picked it up. And he certainly would've tried to pick up
                                        The Grand Budapest Hotel
given his choice to win the bidding war over
