Can someone please explain her accent to me? It is I believe a valley-girl variation but is so pronounced to sound almost affected. I hear girls all over attempting to imitate this inflectionparticularly when saying "thank you" and sounding like "think yaow". ANy ideas?

It's clearly the very obnoxious southern california accent that originated in the san fernando valley but obviously spread to orange county. Also most declarative sentences end with upward inflection which makes them sound like a question. any person who exhibits this accent has IQ less than 100.

I think this is sociologically interesting. Idioms and inflection used to be somewhat limited by geography. You will hear this manner of speaking amongst young women in ANY college town in the US. I am currently in the southeastern part of the country and hear it daily. I agree that they speak in this way to achieve some semblance of stature that they assume these media figures possess. The fact that this personality and its corresponding vocal inflection has spread nationwide through the media fascinates me. The media has such an influence over its more impressionable demographic as to obliterate cultural boundaries, infusing young women throughout the country with a single personality and subsequent world-view.
