questionwere you old enough to be able to form this opinion in the 70's and 80's? it's like someone today saying "i would never name my child Mildred"and i personally wouldn'tMildred is a horrible namebut back in the day when that name was used, people didn't think the same way
I always feel like somebody's watching me

Ye, there are no kids named:
                Deutschland in Germany,
                Espagna in Spain,
                Italia in Italy,
                Belge or Belgique in Belgium,
                Portugal in Portugal,
                Sverige in Sweden,
                Danmark in Denmark,
                Suomi in Finland,
                Osterreich in Austria,
                Canada in Canada,
Nederland or Holland in the Netherlands,
                Polska in Poland,
The only other example I could think of was France in France (obviously).
So, americans are in the proud company of the french in that area. Take from it what you will.

Just for your info, the name is not super rare in Latin America. And I think she has Chilean roots (among others) Traveling, I have met a few Americos and Americas, and when they put that name they do not do it for the USA, but they do it for the Continental definition of America (North, Central, and South America). I guess the most similar thing will be the name Africa, which I have seen among some black community members in the US. Also the name Asia is used by many people noways.

I think America is a beautiful name!
It would be even more beautiful and meaningful if she had been born on July 4th.
