I watched the interview totally prepared to agree with you OP (I could imagine her being super pretentious) but I thought she gave the PERFECT mix of fun, fluffy interview talk with some of her own opinions & experiences thrown in (experiences which relate to the MOVIE she is PROMOTING).
Talking about her experiences with the anarchist groups or whatever is a great promotion talking point for the film and any promotions department would want her to play that anecdote up at every opportunity.

?f she indeed is the voice of a generation What a generation. Self-important, quasi intellectual, narsistic, politically correct to the point of stupidity, sexist and racist (although always claiming to be just the opposite), capitalist to the bone but always denying it (such as making an anti capitalist hollywood movie!), agnostics; being too afraid to be atheists. Find mainstream religions ridiculous but believe in doctrines much more weird and non-sense. Doesnt believe in labels but proudly creates and carries one. I watched a couple of her films and interviews; man doesnt she love her face and her voice. And then there is this quote of her on her page where she states that being an actor is more difficult than being a heart surgeon, any one who seriously believes that is either plain stupid or has lost touch with reality somehow. Opening up a person and operating on his/her heart is easier compared with getting drugged up, memorize some lines and pose to a camera; yes sure. Thats why anyone can become an actor while to be a doctor you are stipulated to get a 6 year education. And if you beep up while acting you get bad reviews, if you beep up during a heart surgery you ll probably be causing the death of someone. I believe there are very few professions which can be considered easier as compared with acting (like modelling) and being any kind of a doctor is sure not one of them.
So i guess who likened her to be the voice of a generation was not wrong although i still believe there is one real voice of this generation: thats Kardashians. Maybe she can get the runner up spot. The age of hypocrites (actually not Kardiashians though, at least they are what they seem to be, no surprises there) is on us.

Radicals are nothing more than former reactionaries.
Such superficial views are the result of privilege, regardless of which side of the aisle you are on.

I've only ever heard pretentious people call other people self-important.
