I am enthralled every time she is onscreen! Growing up in NYC's outer boroughs (Bklyn,Queens) and reviewing film/TV for a few different publications, I always find myself being very judgemental of "street" characters. It is rare that someone gets it right. While The Wire is certainly a wellspring of such believable portrayals, Pearsons paints a piercing portrait* of believability that is unparalleled even amongst her castmates.

I didn't know she was a girl until reading these threads and i just got through finished watching season 3 and 4. She is real, because she is playing herself. Her playing a "female" or another role is as silly as seing eminem in another movie. It's very easy to play yourself on screen.

There may be similarities between The Wires Snoop and the real Snoop but that doesn't make them the same person. The Wires Snoop is a hired killer for drug dealers while the real life woman never killed anybody for money. She was convicted of Second Degree Murder after she shot somebody who tried to attack her with a baseball bat while the character Snoop only kills people in cold blood. Also keep in mind that there is no self-defense law in Baltimore, Maryland so maybe it was self-defense and she was convicted anyway. People who know her say she is much more light hearted than her character.
I actually don't agree that its very easy to play yourself. Everybody has cried or become enraged in their life but not everybody could believably recreate those emotions if they were asked to. It might be easier to play a character you are similar to but it still takes skills.

Killed for money? Are you beep kidding me? Snoop in The Wire didn't even need the money anymore she killed to KILL. Anyone talked beep she would kill if she had it her way. Chris sometimes had to calm her down.
Pearson wasn't acting. She was playing herself. Just watch her interviews and beep lol. Stop trying protect someone that killed a person. She was 14 with a gun. Yeah that says a lot.
Her "acting" was bad. She forced it out. Everything else was her playing herself. Why not shoot the person in the leg? Or the arm? No she shot to kill. Either way no one is ever going to convince the fanboys. If she had talent or "skills" she would be coming out in major films, and something tells me she wont.

Name one murder that Snoop took part in that wasn't for money. How do you know how much money she needed you never saw her house or what kind of lifestyle she had outside of her job?
I'm not trying to protect anyone I'm just getting the story straight. I don't agree with 14 year olds carrying guns but its not unusual in dangerous areas like the one she lived in and most carry guns for protection not with the intention of committing murder. Yes it would have been better to shoot the person in the leg or arms but when a person is being attacked with a baseball bat they don't necessarily have time to think about how they can shoot without killing. Their first instinct is going to be to stop the person from killing them. I don't know if you have ever had someone attack you in that way but I have it is not as simple as you are making it out to be. If talent and skills guarantee major film roles then you would be seeing the whole Wire cast in major films roles but you aren't. Not that thats important though because whether you think she is a good actress or not is just opinion.
FTR I'm not saying she is undoubtedly innocent and shouldn't have been charged I'm just saying that maybe it is more complicated than we know and the fact that Maryland doesn't have a self-defense law makes it a possibility that she did act in self-defense but I don't know what happened because I wasn't there.
