Yes, I'm a fanboy, and I won't deny it. I think Mia is the real deal. I try to avoid stupid comparisons, but I do think she's my generation's Julie Christie She's in the same league of mesmerizing, "poetic actresses," as Al Pacino would say.

Her birthday is actually not until next week. Apparently it's wrong on the internet for some reason. She said so on Late Night just now anyway.

You put it beautifully - poetic and mesmerizing. I was surprised that Oct. 14 isn't actually Mia's birthday. Oh well, I guess even her birthday is a mystery. That's fine, her performances are enough, to me they're the best kind of celebration - food for the soul. Happy birthday Mia, whenever it is.

I just re-watched "Maps to the Stars;" albeit flawed, I do enjoy it as a nasty Hollywood satire, and I can't think of many actresses who could make a deranged character like Agatha sympathetic. In a maelstrom of caricatures, she makes that young lunatic feel so real, and human never overacting (which is not to say that I don't love Moore's fearless performance as Havana; she's actually my favorite actress, and it was a pleasure watching my all-time favorite and my favorite actress of this generation together again).

Yeah, Mia was superb in "Maps" - she was sympathetic while being insane and ultimately dangerous. It was an interesting contrast between Havana and Agatha - Julianne's character absolutely was about chewing-up-the scenery, she was an immature drama queen, but very psychologically damaged. Mia had a more subtle role that revealed its complexity and pathos as it went along - ultimately it's the quiet ones you have to watch out for. I thought they both did wonderful work in this film and I really enjoyed their scenes together - what a study in contrast - they were both damaged, but Agatha was both delusional and pure.
