He definitely is. Pretty much all of the Glee male cast is gay. I mean this is Glee we are talking about.
I mean if he were to be open about it his career would be sunk. It's an open secret, he just doesn't flaunt it.

He was just on Ellen and was very clear that he is straight. He seems like such a nice cool guy.

I saw him on Ellen. He says he isn't gay. Wellok. Fine. I can understand why he would lie about it (for all the other reasons actors lie about being gay).

If someone is in the closet the last thing they usually do is take on a gay role.

Ellen even asked him about it, saying something like he had to "come out" as a straight man. And he said something about "being very comfortable in his sexuality as a straight male."

That statement is so ridiculous. I mean I can understand where you're coming from, they want to distance themselves as much as possible from any signs of homosexuality, but all you have to do is look at current/past actors.
James Franco for one. He still insists on not being gay, yet has taken on soo many gay roles and has even studied queer studies at Uni. Come on, just face it the guy is gay. I mean people would have so much more respect for actors who were just open about their sexuality. They would probably even gain new fans.
Look at Sean Hayes. He played a gay character on Will & Grace for years and insisted he was not gay. Yet, years later he comes out of the closet.
The truth of the matter is that most men that take on gay roles are gay in real life (It takes one to know one). You want proof, all you have to do is a little digging. Hell look at Glee.

It doesn't really mat5b4ter to me one way or the other, I really enjoy watching his performances on Glee and hope he continues to be in every episode. I think he is a wonderful addition to the cast and helps make a great show even better. I've watched "Glee" since the pilot episode and will continue to watch.
I've never personally heard James Franco or Sean Hayes talk about being gay, so I can't comment on those actors. But I did see Darren look at Ellen yesterday while he was a guest on her show and say he was straight, and I beleived him. (Even though all my instincts were telling me differently!)
I think it's interesting because I read somewhere last fall that Darren was cast because he is not gay. I read online that Ryan Murphy was very concerned that Chris Colfer be comfortable with his character of Kurt having a potential love interest, and that when Glee did a search for a boyfriend for Kurt, Ryan didn't want it to look like they were looking for a boyfriend for Chris, so he hired two straight actors (Darren and Max Adler)to play gay students.
I just can't wait until Sunday night to see Darren in the next episode of Glee!
(BTW, I don't think every male actor on Glee is gay, judging by pictures and comments made by Cory, Mark, and Chord!)

Darren is a new kind of guy. A type of guy the world needs to see more often. He acts like himself without worrying about how others will perceive him. Yes, he's effeminate, eccentric and flamboyant but that's just who he is and he doesn't hide it, he embraces it. He's comfortable enough with his sexuality that he isn't afraid to take on so5b4meone else's.
No one is ever cast because of their sexual preference. Darren was Cast because he was the best and Max was cast and his character was introduced before they decided to make him gay.
It's illegal to put out a casting call for only gay actors for a gay role, or only straight actors for a straight role. It's illegal to even ask about someone's sexual preference when casting.
Ryan Murphy announced over the summer that Kurt would be getting a boyfriend in the second season so it was common knowledge that they were casting a new actor for that part.
With Darren's upbringing, if he was gay he'd be out and proud. Closeted gay actors who say they're straight often say something like "There's nothing wrong with being gay but I'm not".
They NEVER say something like this:
"Its a subject thats very near and dear to my heart, simply because I grew up in such an open communitydoing theater in San Francisco. I mean, it doesnt get much, stereotypically, gayer. I was inadvertently raised in the gay community. I had straight parents, but I spent massive amounts of time at a very early age with gay, theater-hopeful thirty-somethings. And those were the people I spent time with early on, so my whole perception of sexuality just wasnt there. It justwas. It even got to the point where, later in life I had all the components in place. I was, well, n111cot super effeminate, but I was into girly thingsI liked musical theater, all the stereotypical things. I had to come out and say, well, Im sorry, but I think Im straight. And people were like, say it aint so! And I would say, Its been a secret too long, but Im actually a straight male.
And so for the longest time when people asked me about Blaine, I wanted to say It doesnt matter. And it doesnt. But I dont want to devalue it, because its a very earnest question, and I can see why people would want to know. And I realized that if I said, It doesnt matter, that immediately means that Im gay. So I do define myself as a straight male, but it really doesnt come into play with me in this role. As an actor, your objective is always to play the scene. And this case, he happens to be a gay teen."
That was Darren's answer to a question about playing a gay character and the subject matter being addressed in a Vanity Fair interview.

I recently read Chord's (sam) Vanity Fair interview from back when he was the suspected "boyfriend for Kurt and when he was asked a question about an onscreen kiss with Chris/Kurt and the first half of his answer was "I dont know if I would be totally down with that outside of work. Ive never kissed a guy before." (on the defensive). Ryan Murphy must have jumped for joy when he realized that by hiring Darren he was also hireling the straight poster boy for the LGBT community.
Some people wonder why out of the guys Darren gets more press despite being new but tb68he answer lies in his answers. He's fun and charismatic but he's also intelligent and extraordinarily well spoken.

So an actor takes on one gay role and suddenly they're gay? That's ridiculous. You might as well then say every guy that takes on a straight role is straight as well then. I mean, you used the example of Sean Hayes, but what about Eric McCormack? He played a gay character for years as well, and yet he's still saying he's straight.
Darren had it right in saying his sexuality shouldn't even matter. But it's the people that start saying stuff like that 'oh, he's playing a gay character he has to be gay' that forced him to have to say that he's actually straight, he just doesn't have an issue with playing a gay character, or with the idea of kissing guys on screen.

You know, I personally thought his Ellen interview was a little gay, but just like in real life you should really just believe a person when they say something. We live in a state of distrust these days. If he is gay he's forced to hide it (which would be weird given his character is gay), but either way out of respect you would think people would give up on it. This person, that we've never met, has a private life, and it's none of our business.

I don't believe Sean Hayes ever "insisted" he wasn't gay. I'm pretty sure he just never commented on it until recently.
Also, I don't think James Franco is gay. Maybe he is, but just because he's comfortable playing gay and even studied it doesn't mean he is. He seems very accepting of it, that's all. Look up articles where he talks about playing gay; he's been very candid.

I for one hope James Franco, as well as Colin Ferrell are gay since they are both so sexy and have no problems playing gay roles. I like watching male actorswhether gay or straightconvincingly take on whatever role they play, since they are ACTORS!! Makes sense when you think about it. But if I discovered they are in fact gay, that's the cherry on top!!
I can think of a host of other actors besides Darren, and the aforementioned I wish were gay as well5b4 but then if they all suddenly came out, there wouldn't be many straight actors left! LOL
So even though it pains me Darren isn't gay, I'm extremely happy for him.
"I don't love you enough to hate you!!"
