I find it funny how people in this thread have talked about actors playing gay characters and how they even therefore would be gay themselves, according to some.
What about Neil Patrick Harris?
He's gay, yet he plays one of the biggest womanizers on the planet on How I Met Your Mother: BARNEY.
Does that make him straight? Of course not. So why would a straight person suddenly be gay if he/she portrayed a gay person?
I actually think that because of Neil Patrick Harris's "distance" to heterosexuality and sexual relations to women, he might have an advantage when playing the role compared to straight guys with an sexual/romantic connection to women haha. -

Why, oh, why does this subject only ever seem to come up in regards to actors playing gay characters?
Christian Bale played a serial killer in American Psycho but nobody asks if he's ever really murdered anybody.
Edward Norton played a skinhead in American History X but nobody asks if he's ever curb-stomped anybody.
Robin Williams played an obsessive stalker in One Hour Photo but nobody asks if ever terrorized anybody.
The point is they are actors and they are doing the job for which they were hired. Darren knew he was auditioning (th1c84ree or four times he said in one interview) to play a gay character on a hugely popular network show and I have huge respect for him that he is comfortable enough with his sexuality that he doesn't see it as a big deal.

So you met Darren at your friend's wedding?
How was he in person? He seems like a nice guy.
I bought 3 tickets to the "Glee Live" show in Chicago for June 4 and I'm going to drive 10 hours just to see him perform live! -

Although he says he's straight, I have a hard time believing he is.
That is not to say that playing a gay guy makes you gay or even that coming off as gay always means you are.
It's fine one way or the other, my gaydar just goes wild when I watch his interviews.
