Glee star Darren Criss will return to Broadway as the next headlining star of Hedwig and the Angry Inch. He will play a limited 12-week run beginning Wednesday, April 29. Criss will take over the role from John Cameron Mitchell, the shows book writer and original off-Broadway star, who plays his final performance on Sunday, April 26.
"Ive got a grin plastered on my face that Darren is joining the brotherhood of Hedwigs," said Mitchell in a statement. "I LOVED him in How to Succeed. His stage presence is electrifying, his rock and roll credentials and comic timing impeccable and Im thrilled to be working with him to create a brand-new Hedwig!"
"The first time I saw Darren I knew he was a game changer. Hes that good," added composer Stephen Trask. "Then, when we hung out it was like we were old friends. Im excited to spend the next few months making the show and getting to know each other better. Im happy that Hedwig can be Darrens next stop on h5b4is way to world domination."
Criss is best known for his regular role as Blaine Anderson on Foxs Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning series Glee. He made his Broadway debut in 2012, replacing Daniel Radcliffe in the revival of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.

I for one am super excited to see what he brings to the role! I've always felt his acting ability is probably much greater than what Glee allowed him to show over all, and I think if there's any role to prove me right or prove me wrong, it'll be this one. Plus, as John Cameron Mitchell and Stephen Trask have said themselves, he's done pop/rock music so much of his life, it will likely bring a real authenticity to his take on the songs. This isn't a show where the vocals HAVE to be perfect- but it does help if they feel authentically rock. NPH, for example, it seems like he gave an excellent over all performance, just listening to him on the Broadway cast recording alone doesn't do anything for me because b68he just sounds TOO flawless and trained and his diction is so crisp that it looses some of the emotion of the songs.
Again, though, all of this is just my personal speculation about it. NONE of us can really form a true opinion about his performance one way or the other until we actually see it. I'm hopeful, though, considering how excited the brilliant Hedwig team (John Cameron Mitchel, Stephen Trask, Michael Mayer, etc.) seem to be about him
And one thing I WILL say is that he looks
hawt
in the makeup XD
Also loving the particular attitude he's giving in that promo! The promo photo, while pretty, wasn't the most interesting, but as soon as I saw that video it made me even more excited to see him in the show.

So I got last minute 9th row seats on mothers day and it was an amazing preformance. Don't miss it if you can see it. He was outstanding and I've seen a lot of Broadway and this is in the top ten. He also came out after and spent over an hour signing autographs and talking to everyone. I wished his mom and happy Mother's Day and he was terribly gracious. Can't wait for my front rows next month!
