Yeah, but it unfortunately doesn't really break any new grounds for other Asian American actors.
If Harry Shum Jr manages to become a big star, it might break some ground, but as it stands Darren Criss - regardless of his ancestry - is just another good looking (albeit talented) white boy as far as the mainstream media is concerned. Most people aren't even aware that he's Phillipino.
The subject really pisses me off too. As a fan of Asian cinema, there are so many talented actors that miss out on roles in the mainstream due to typecasting, asian stereotypes and Hollywood racism. I'm as happy as anyone that Criss has hit the big time, but it's a very sorry state of affairs when the only "Asian American" actor to make it big is a guy who doesn't look the least bit Asian.
