I gained respect for Ms. Blonsky after hearing about this on Radar Online.
She sets an example unlike this overwhelming majority of these vapid, no talent, attention wh0res.

Honestly, I think its more awesome working in a shoe store than hanging herself, getting drugged up, or killing over over alcohol abuse. Shows how great a person she is to me. Hard working and still living life the best she can. Wish her the best.

I feel bad for her, it must be really humiliating after being in a hit movie, I'm not a famous actor but I wouldn't work as a salesperson I think it's demeaning and I'd hate to be bossed around by other people LOL
I can't go to jail. Look at me, I'll get raped like crazy.

I think this is definitely a humbling experience for Nikki. Just because an actor has a hot streak doesn't mean it will last forever. Nikki is being responsible she is showing a lot of maturity here. I hope Nikki's career takes off again.

While there are worse things that could happen to her, I'm sure this is not exactly what she envisioned for herself after starting an acting career
But th5b4en again Lisa Bonet, for example, from "The Cosby Show", who had a much longer career and a few movies under her belt, was working, last I heard, as a social worker in New York City (don't know if she is still doing it).
They are hardly the only ones, I mean look at Sean Young, at one point the woman was poised to become THE actress in Hollywood and then she fell from grace (for whatever reasons) and now she is on "Celebrity Rehab"enough said!
What about Virginia Madsen who is such an amazing actress, and was reduced at one point making B-movies and erotic thrillers because that was the only work she could get? Alexander Payne literally revived her acting carreer with "Sideways". So looks are a factor but not necessarily always, in whether or not an actress gets work or not. It is pretty clear that actresses who Hollywood deems overweight (readnot aneurexic) have a much harder time finding work at all. Yet examples like Ms. Madsen show, since she has the talent and looks, that that is not always the case, since she was almost forgotten and her carreer stalled at one point.
I wish Nikki Blonsky all the best and good luck! I hope she gets back to acting sooner than later! Hey maybe TV is the way to go, but not network TV, maybe AMC, FX, HBO, Showtime, Starzthose networks put more of a basis for casting on talent and not looksshe might have a better luck there

I agree with a lot of what you just said; loco73, I hope that Nikki does find quality acting work again in the near future, and another cable show might be the way to go. But I take issue with you saying "those networks put more of a basis for casting on talent and not looks"; Nikki Blonsky is not at all unattractive; I personally think she's quite beautiful, she just doesn't have the type of beauty or bodytype that Hollywood is looking for these days! "Blond, tall, skinny, and plastic-looking" has becob68me the prototype for actresses to be considered attractive, and there doesn't seem to be much room for "short, plump and cute as a button"! But like you said, I wish Nikki all the best and good luck, a performer of her talent, energy and charisma(not to mention extreme cuteness) shouldn't have to waste her gift selling shoes forever.

Oh no you misunderstood that partI did not mean that she is not attractive, I just mean that those networks have a lot more variety when they cast a show, unlike Hollywood, where it seems if you're not an aneurexic, no-talent-hack, you can kiss goodbye most mainstream roles (of course luckily there are exceptions). For example if you take "The Wire" as a show, or "Deadwood" the variety of the cast was great and the emphasis was not so much on looks, the su2000perficial I mean, but on talent and acting ability primarily, that does not mean that there was anything wrong with their physical presence on-screen.
I would think that a more open environment such as that, where creativity is encouraged, Ms Blonsky would find it easier to showcase her abilities without being judged and denied work because her look is perceived, through artificial and highly subjective means, not to be on-par for what passes for beautiful these daysthere is a reason they say "beauty is in the eye of the beholder"I wish more people would remember that.

I've been to her Facebook page. Nikki is still acting. That job was for only one day.

That's not true, she was working 2 or 3 days a week at the shoe store.

I have no idea why you would lump Virginia Madsen in with Lisa Bonet who did have a drug problem and bit the hand (Cosby's) that had fed her and Sean Young who is a nut (5b4 no secret there). Virginia Madsen most likely said no to the wrong person(s) and did gain some weight after the birth of her son and being cast in Sideways helped to some extent but it was Harrison Ford choosing her to play his wife in Firewall when he learned that she was about to lose her house who was her saviour. Unfortunately, even though she has continued to get work ,it is not the work she deserves. It is the ageism in Hollywood that kills the careers of actresses like Madsen who do good work, do not cause trouble on or off of sets, and are still dropped further down the ladder by the appearance of each new. young thing. Talented or not.
It puzzles me why Miss Blonsky is not on Broadway or in a touring company where her talents would be better served. She was a born musical comedy performer and yet she winds up working nine to five. I admire her for that but I still question why she is avoiding her true calling.

                        Her agent must really suck.
Then again, I doubt there's many roles in tv/movies for a big girl, especially a pretty one. Can't cast her as your stereotypical huge monster fat woman character, which seems to be almost always the only type of large female character hollywood writers are capable of creating.
It's too bad she didn't turn to porn. All I'm sayin.

She was on Oprah's Where Are They Know and it sounded like she wanted to continue but the roles she got after Hairspray weren't as good as Tracy so she turned them down. That was her choice to wait for the right roles but sometimes you just got to take the character parts. Strike while the iron's hot and build from there. She's basically had one role anyone knows and that's 7 years ago.

Actually, she seems the type that it wouldn't bother her at all and would be employee of the month for years. Nothing wrong with humility.
