I agree. He's a decent actor and seems like a decent guy. At least he's not carrying on like Justin Bieber, Charlie Sheen or Kanye West. Just because he comes from money doesn't mean that he's selfish for entering show business. Its all about staying humble and appreciating what your blessed with.

I think he generates a lot of hate because he makes a lot of other males feel just a little bit inadequate:)

Yes, his father Angelo Giammatti was president of Yale University and also at one time Commissioner of Major League Baseball.

At least he can act and obviously isn't getting by on his looks like most of that list. Rooney Mara is alright but her sister Kate is awful and should stick to cheering on the Giants and Steelers.

                  Jealousy.
I think he made a fine Lone Ranger. He's probably not a great actor, but certainly not bad enough to attract much dislike. He's a tall, handsome man who's also rich and238 that annoys lots of people

I like him fine enough. I'd like to see him in more things and I think he has good screen presence. It's not like he's a Jaden Smith.

Some stories about him have leaked from people who encountered him at his bakery in his pre-fame days and a lot of them had the same impression: doesn't like interacting with people, seemed moody/unfriendly , does f^ck-all at the bakery; wife does all the work.
I think that's why the "nice fun guy" image he's selling now isn't holding over well for everyone because of all the receipts and encounters from back in the day that paint a different picture of him.
This leaves the impression that he's being fake.
Plus he gives off a weirdly, throwbacky "80s prep douche" vibe.

I know nothing about his background and agree he's a decent actor. I don't "hate" him (after all, I don't know him), but he seems oddly generic to me. He's obviously tall and handsome, but he's so forgettable. I've seen him in, I think, 3 pictures, and if I had to, I couldn't think what he looks like. He's like a computer manufactured a generic tall handsome man. I've seen Cavil in two movies - UNCLE an Man of Steel - and he's totally memorable. He has dark hair, a cleft chin, etc. Clooney, Depp, Pitt, Cruise, etc., all looks like real people. Hammer looks like a doll or mannequin that came alive.

His looks aren't the problem, his lack of dynamic talent is. Alain Delon and Tony Curtis looked like Ken dolls (especially Delon) but had intensity . My sister described Hammer as "basic" and "white bread." She also blamed his looks but I think if he had more dynamic performances, he'd squash that image. The closest he came was playing the Winklevoss twins. If he can channel more of that menace into another role and combine it with more emotion and amp up the intensity, he'd have a different career.

delon is the most handsome man to ever grace the screen. full point. lousy dad, terrible husband / boyfriend , kanye-like ego, but boy, did he look greatI I can't even really judge delon skills, don t see how anyone could, he is just so distractingly beautiful.

I saw him in Purple Noon; he had interesting nuances to his performance. If he'd been less attractive, I think his acting skills would've been even more appreciated.

Jude Law has the same kind of beauty Delon had, and Jude Law is also a talented actor.
The first movie in which I saw Delon was
                                    The Red Sun
with Charles Bronson and Toshiro Mifune. Quite the cast there! It turned out to be a pretty good movie.
I haven't been able to see many of Delon's other movies, and many of the ones that I have seen had inferior production and direction or stupid stories, but he certainly did have screen presence. I believe that if he could have overcome the accent, he would have taken Hollywood by storm. But Hollywood wasted him in roles like that Airplane movie.

Strip away the phony tinsel of Hollywood and you find the real tinsel underneath.

I never thought much of Curtis' acting ability, but I do recognize he could be really good in the right roles. He was very charismatic, and he did bolster a few classic films.
Delon, one of my favorite actors, just had enigmatic quality that he couldn't really shake off. I watched Purple Noon the other night, and up until a certain point Delon seems like just another pretty boy for the audience to adore. Once he goes into killer mode, there's a strong-but quiet-intensity that takes over, and it's very clear that you're watching a unique male star.
I know this is probably the wrong board for this, but it's always cool to encounter others who appreciate Delon.

Not really the wrong board; Armie's not getting appreciation from anyone so we might as well appreciate Delon. LOL. Could you believe his eyes in "Purple Noon?" They almost looked violet; like a male Liz Taylor.
And, yes. He had an animal-like intensity; like a big cat. It's a shame he wasn't able to learn English fluently in time to transition to Hollywood.

Funny. I thought Hammer stole the show from Cavill in
                                          The Man from U.N.C.L.E.
Whenever Hammer was onscreen, I hardly noticed Cavill.
Although I haven't been impres238sed by Depp's more recent work, he has turned in some iconic performances.
                                          Edward Scissorhands
is one of my favorite films, and as much as I love Winona Ryder and Dianne Wiest, the film's success rests mainly on Johnny Depp's performance. And although Pitt is a pretty boy who is not above making generic blockbusters for the cash and fame, he can chew up the screen like nobody's business in the right role. Loved his turn as a crazy guy in
                                          Twelve Monkeys
. And no matter how weird Cruise is in real life, he's quite a talented actor.
Cavill1c84 and Clooney are very attractive men and not bad actors at all, but if having dark hair and a cleft chin is your criteria for whether or not someone is memorable, not to be mean but I have to wonder how much your opinion is worth.
Hammer probably doesn't have the acting chops of Depp or Pitt, though it's hard to say for sure from the one role in which I've seen him so far, but he did well enough in that role that he could turn out to be quite good later as he matures and gains more experience. I believe he's still fairly young, after all.

Strip away the phony tinsel of Hollywood and you find the real tinsel underneath.
