Funny, I always pictured her as black too. Maybe it's because her name is Lavender BROWNhehe I don't know, but I personally think that's the subconcious reason why I pictured her that way. 😛

Lol, I always pictured her quite pale with brown hair, almost like Bella off Twilight, but I guess her name inspired the hair colour. In the very first movie wasn't Lavender black? That's probably what inspired it lol.
But why should you wish to persuade me that I feel more than I acknowledge?

I always thought Lavendar was supposed to be Indian. I don't know why. I know the Patil sisters are but I thought she was supposed to be.

I thought she was going to be black. I don't know why.. But I think Jessie will do the role great!
And about the Patil sisters The new Parvati Patil sucks. The one in the third film (Sitara "Sity" Shah) was much prettier than the new one. And I can imagine that Sity is nicer as well.
(Yes I know that this thread is about Jessie Cave and her Lavender part, but I couldn't help saying it!

wowi think i'm the only one here that pictured Lavender pale and blonde (also sort of superficial looking, a little materialistic, and with big boobs :P:P:P) so i'm not bummed about the actress they chose. Only thing that's different is that she looks really sweet. But yeah, as long as she's clingy and a bit annoying, i'm good 😛

stop all this nonsense. just call them black people. most of them(living in america) have never even been to africa so theres no point calling them african-anything. it's really as stupid as calling white americans european-american. who does that? nobody. call them blacks and end the confusion

Agreed wes. I know many white people from Africa (usually South Africa) that are better qualified to be called African-American. I dislike that the term African-American exclusively means black people, including those who have never even been to Africa. I appreciate that the UK just calls them Black.
And just to stay on topic, I always thought of Lavender as white too -apparently I'm in the minority! I thought white with brown hair though. Oh well, doesn't matter to me as long as she acts the part!

I also thought she was white when I originally read the book. That's why when I saw her in the Movie I was like why is she black. I guess that girl wasn't supposed to be Lavender Brown, she was just an extra named Lavender in the credits.

Lavender's ethnicity isn't mentioned in the books. The actress who played her in the Prisoner of Azkaban movie (Jennifer Smith) is black. That's probably where a lot of people (including me!) got the idea that Lavender was black

Actually, that's not entirely true. When she's kissing Ron in the common room (after the Quidditch match and Ron and Harry finding Ginny and Dean in the hallway), it says that Harry's having a hard time telling whose hands are whose because of how completely on top of each other they are (the details that make me embarrassed that I just read something are, unfortunately, the ones that remain in my mind forever). As such, one can assume that her hands are much the same shade as Ron's - ergo she's Caucasian.

They have made a point in the books of describing those who are black. Dean Thomas, Angelina Johnson, Lee Jordon and Kingsley Shacklebolt. (the only ones I can remember right now)
I had always pictured her as a very superficial girl who looked a bit like Alicia Silverstone in Clueless, but with brown hair.
I b68think the actress did a pretty good job of nailing her character. Then again, the actors are limited by what the director will allow them to do.
