Wowsome of you guys almost seem offended at the casting choice. Pretty much anyone could have gotten the part, and some

In response to jawsaints, there's already a black character, Angelina. But anyway, thats insignificant. It was never assumed that Parvati and Lavender were ethnic - it was
stated
that Parvati was and Lavender was never described. Seeing as someones race really isn't significant (in a way that it doesn't change their personality, everyone's equal despite race etc), I doubt that JKR would've aimed to have the equal numbers of black boys and girls. I'm not trying to start an argument here, just stating that I doubt she would make Lavender black to stand opposite Dean Thomas.
Anyway, in the first 5 films, there wasn't
really
a Lavender Brown cast. Jennifer Smith (I think that was her name?) was an extra, and the director told her that she could call herself Lavender. She wasn't specifically cast for that part as Lavender's role was so insignificant in the first five films. So they aren't really recasting, mostly just casting. Does that make sense?
But, back to Jessie. She is pretty much just how I pictured Lavender. Pretty little blonde girl. Why else would Ron like her? Clearly he wasn't interested in her
personality
, lol. But yeah, good casting!
Our worlds are colliding.

I thought Lavender was Black too! I guess I just assumed that she was because it seems like the Weasley's have a thing for Black folks. One of the twins asked Angelina to the Yule Ball, Ginny ends up dating Dean, the twin's best friend is Lee Jordan, and Ron was dating a Black girl (or so I thought anyway)

Yeah I thought she was BLACK also it's just really confusing because they do say Jennipher Smith the girl from POA was Lavender Brown and she's black
This is just like Cirque Du freak they say in the book that the girl named Debbie is played by a Black girl but when it comes time for casting they choose to make her a White girl with blonde hair. WTF are people just afraid of interracial mixing. -

Agreed. I was reading the description and thought "Woow, just how I imagined too!" I actually never imagined Ron dating such a "preppy girl". I don't know, but it doesn't feel right. Maybe because he's not the preppy girl type I guess. I've always liked Lavender, I thought her character gave more teen spirit to the book. The way she turns out to be in the sixth book disapointed me, and I think that's how they're trying to portray her.
This girl feels really weird. But if she can come up with a good Lavender, I'll give her all the credit!
Go Jessie, makes us all proud xD :] -

No this is exactly how I thought Lavender would look like. Even though they don't give a description in the book I always imagined her being white with semi-brown hair. I don't know where everyone is getting their ideas of a black lavender from but I think she is perfect. Apparently the casting crew does too because she beat more than 7000 girls for the part, many of whom I am sure were black or mexican.
