I think it's fair to say that she hasn't lived up to expectations and probably never will. I just don't think that she is that dedicated to her acting career, she seems to be interested in pursuing other passions which is fine and good for her. I think everyone should lower their expectations and not expect to see another true grit out of her.

Since "Pitch Perfect 2", Hailee unfortunately has not made any movies that have done well. I'm not sure whether she made it before or after PP2, but her movie "Barely Lethal" didn't get much of a theatrical release (if it got one at all) and pretty much went straight to DVD. I didn't think it was that bad of a movie; if promoted well enough I think it could have made some money at the box office. It was kind of an odd mixture of a teen-oriented romance and an action comedy that didn't seem like it knew what it wanted to be ultimately.
Then she did "Term Life" and that was just a bad movie. I don't think there's anything that could have been done to save it. Her acting in it was fine; in fact I've never really seen her give a bad performance. She is always believable in whatever she does. It was just a poorly written and directed movie.
Her next movie "The Edge of Seventeen" sounds like it might be good. It seems like it is aimed more at the teenage girl audience that would listen to Hailee's music. The writer/director is a woman, and she wrote the Alexis Bledel movie "Post Grad", which I remember as being OK. The movie is also produced by James L. Brooks, and usually he has an eye for promising filmmakers (he discovered Wes Anderson and made "Bottle Rocket" with him).
I hope the movie is promoted well with a good trailer and everything and Hailee continues to make movies. She's a good actress in my opinion. Even in her "Rock Bottom" video she is giving a good, believable performance and it's only a music video!
