Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Rachele Brooke Smith

Her dancing is good, but she can't act worth beep. I'd advise her to keep up with acting studies to improve her delivery, which right now is wooden at best. There is no inflection in her voice she can't emote at all.
Work on it, and with her looks and dancing ability, Rachele could blossom into a killer package.
But you have to get some emotion into your delivery.
Who knows? Maybe it was the project (Central Stage 2). Granted the material wasn't all that challenging, which might be part of the problem. However, Rachele could have brought some more range into her performance.

She was okay at dancing, well, she was quite good at the hip hop dancing
but her ballet was terrible, her turn out was really bad.
I'm really dissappointed with Center Stage 2. It was too much like Step Up, which is boring and unoriginal. There are too many hip hop movies right now, thats what made Center Stage so o5b4riginal.

I absolutely agree, twiggy. Any hip hop is too much for me. I'm an old fuddy-duddy and don't find hip hop interesting. I adore ballet, though, and can see why some young folks prefer hip hop. It takes little of the discipline and study of ballet. When you watch ballet being performed, you are seeing the history of dance unfold before you, the strength of the dancers, and the sheer lyricism of the music.
I also agree with you about Rachele's ballet. I had no expectations of her dance ability, and I wasn't disappointed. She was able to get on point, which, I assume, was all that was required of her. 🙂 I also assume a true ballerina wouldn't have worked, as not too many of those I know can do hip hop.
I remember seeing Barishnikov when he first performed jazz on stage. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't get away from the strictures of ballet. You could see him battling with muscle memory to bend his body in the forms and moves of jazz. It's not easy to change disciplines, and I guess that is why they used Rachele Brooke Smith.
If they're going to make a Center Stage 3, I hope they go back to the straight ballet story.
