            Apparently the story is that it was Herman Mankiewicz’s idea for Kansas to be filmed in black and white / sepia and Oz to be in color. Don’t know if he had any further influence beyond that. Probably not, but if it’s true, what a genius idea.

              I read he wrote much of The Wizard of Oz. He was the original writer out of 10 or so and was left off the writing credit by the time it was finished.
              In 1938, he worked on The Wizard Of Oz, writing a significant amount of the script - he reportedly came up with the idea of turning the action from black and white to full colour when Dorothy and Toto arrive in Oz - but again, was uncredited when the end of the film rolled around.
