It is a good movie but I didn't find it was far beyond other great movies of the time. Citizen Kane only became talk about as a universal consensus for greatest movie ever decades after it was released. Reverence for Orson Welles as an icon was probably behind this, rather than the movie itself somehow getting better.

The old choice Gone With the Wind fell out of favor because it didn't match the more authentic style that became the norm in film in the decades after its release. Citizen Kane holds up better in that regard.

IMO it was so influential that it has since become so absorbed into mainstream filmmaking that viewers are no longer aware of how movies were forever changed after it came onto the scene. Do other films copy it explicitly in style or substance? No, but even a film like the Maltese Falcon which came out shortly afterward and was itself a major influence on film noir in the 40s and 50s would have not have had the same look and feel were it not for Citizen Kane. Just my two cents.
Schrodinger's Cat walks into a bar, and doesn't.
