I quite agree - the Reddit boards already have a replication of the 'general' boards set-up, with all boards accounted for. But what sets IMDb apart are the boards for EVERY individual, every film and every show. I can, given time, probably get over the loss of CFB, FG, Books (some of the regulars on the Books board are wonderfully knowledgable and informative) and others - but the individuals' boards are an irreplaceable resource. Any time I watch a movie, one of the first things I do is check out its board for comments, questions and answers. Thats one of the BIG pleasures of my movie-loving life which is about to be hacked away.

Yes the individual message boards will be a great loss - they were incredibly useful in helping me track down copies of obscure movies. This whole move seems unneccessary - its not like much resources were being used to moderate the boards so I can't fathom the reasning

A lot of those individual movie boards were quite dead. I'd visit them and I'd see maybe 5 threads on some of them. Maybe that's what made it so tough for the admins to keep the boards going.

Plus one RE the BIG pleasure of movies' pages.
I very regularly get curious about a low rated and lesser known yet interesting sounding film and find useful info on whether I ought to invest time and or money to check it out via the film's page's discussion, often guiding me to invest in something I'd otherwise have missed out on.

Sorry about that. I kept getting the message that my post wasn't being posted, so I'd try again.

I have to disagree about the Criterion site. It is one of the most snobbish sites I have seen, and they are VERY unwelcoming to newcomers.

Yep. I haven't posted there in a long time.

I created a login to complain about their website when they redesigned 5 or 7 years ago? The TCM schedules would not display, it was terrible roll out from their old website.
I think the discussions were pretty TCM-centric but I remember the forum members being polite and knowledgeable.

Try /film/ on 8chan too. It's not focused entirely on classic but also foreign, arthouse, etc.
There's a heavy visual element, as it's an imageboard rather than simply a discussion forum.
