which coincided with the film education I was actually paying for, 17 years ago. I can't even separate the two, this place was so formative.
For years now I've been lurking and poking my head in on occasion, and maybe only a few of you remember my username, but damn. I'm really going to miss this place and all the familiar names that still post here.
    Cheers.
    You're a nutcase.

I remember you, you were funny! You and Organic were buds, right? Well, perhaps we'll all meet again somewhere better

Thank you sir! Aye, Organic and I remain buds. And I hope we keep finding pools of IMDB communities thriving out there, somewhere

I feel the same. Many years ago I was mostly visiting the Classic Film board, where I've learned many wonderful things. For starters, it's helped me move from enjoying a movie like an illustrated story - to enjoying the various visual aspects that make film an artistic medium different from anything else.
Besides, after 4 years on IMDb (Classic or General), I have suddenly discovered that my English skills had upgraded from B2 to C2.
I really hope they will keep at least a small part of the message boards alive. Perhaps the individual movie boards?

I think I'm definitely a better writer than I would've been without IMDB. Not saying my writing's great, but it'd be a whole lot worse.

What a poor film education that must have been. Personally, everything I know about filmmaking I learned from Jeremiah McDonald's YouTube channel, now THAT guy knows how to make a film. Check it out, if you haven't.

Posting here has increased my typing speed and has made me look at films in a different way sometimes I wish I could go back to just a simple "watch a movie" mindset. I have even taken to writing down good quotes to post on the movie pages. Not so far gone as to look for goofs and minor plot holes
                  (yet)
RE: The education aspect. Early in my posting history, I made the mistake of remarking that reading the posts on the CFB was like taking a Cinema 101 course.
The trolls and troll huggers made a field day out of that for a while.
