I'm just wondering how/where you were able to see
      Tarnished Lady
      and
      Girls About Town
. Both are kept firmly under lock and key by Universal, which owns the rights to the pre-1950 Paramount library, and is reticent about sharing those treasures with the public. I saw both at MOMA's 1970 Cukor retrospective, and neither since. Another rarity is
      Winged Victory
. While it's certainly a negligible footnote in the Cukor filmography, I'd still like to see it,
      just because
. While I've been searching for it for decades, no luck.
I'm hoping that you can share your source for seeing these very rare gems.
(My jaw is dropping at some of the entries on your "so-so" list. What's your criteria for your classifications?)

its on youtube right now. But I take it you've seen it.
But its not a rare film at all, I often see it on internet.
Winged Victory is also on youtube right now, quality is not very good though

I check YouTube regularly, and have for years, for the two 1931 films I mentioned.
          Girls About Town
, I see, was uploaded for the first time exactly
          one week ago
. If we can judge by history, Universal will take it down momentarily. The
          Winged Victory
upload of six months ago is of such a bad visual and aural quality as to render it unwatchable.
          The delightful
          Girls About Town
in indeed a hard-to-find film, and just because it recently showed up on YouTube doesn't make it any the less so.
Again, by what criteria so you rate some of Cukor's finest oeuvres as "so-so"?

I've seen this film regularly on diff sites for last few years. Also if at some point you'll want to see it and won't be able to find, message me I'll email you the file (I have it), or will let you know where its available at the moment.
p.s. I am also subscribed to few users on youtube, I receive message that someone uploaded "Girls About Town" much more often then I care. (I would like to rewatch Kay's film with Miriam Hopkins, and Miriam Hopkins early film with Carole Lombard, but that's getting off the subject)

Again, by what criteria so you rate some of Cukor's finest oeuvres as "so-so"?
I don't like "Star is Born" much, I hope its ok

Looking forward to your list, since I take it you saw most of them.
I take it you mainly surprised at "Star is Born" ? Doubt there many fans of last films of Garbo and Shearer; Romeo and Juliet would have been much better without L Howard.

The only Cukor film I haven't seen is
                Grumpy
, and I only saw another rarity,
                Zaza
, for the first time six months ago. I'll wait to submit my detailed analysis of his extraordinary filmography until someone chooses to discuss it in-depth, and without nebulous, unsupported, vague categories such as "liked a lot" and "so-so". Your assumption about the Garbo and Shearer films is erroneous, and it's a fact that
                Two-Faced Woman
, though not the finest film in either Cukor or Garbo's body of work, has achieved a cult status, and is not without its merits.

IMO, Cukor's ROMEO AND JULIET would have been better if it was never made!
With the exception of Edna May Oliver (and maybe Andy Devine), all of the actors were far too old for their roles.
I'll wager that john Barrymore didn't draw a sober breath throughout his performance!
And the sets looked like those of a stage play.
Franco Zefirelli's 1968 movie was FAR superior.

I got Tarnished Lady from the same place where I got Girls About Town years and years ago. Do you remember I PM'd you about that, way back then?

indeed one of his worst films, surprising he made it same time Woman's Face, also with Crawford, which is one of her best.

Don't know if uncredited films should be counted.
For 3 films that you choose his best - 2 of them he is uncredited. Regarding Wizard of Oz (which is one of them), he didn't shot any material, and was sort of advisor in the early stages, but not in any way a Director

Well, he did advise Judy Garland to dump the blond wig, the heavy make-up, and asked her to act more natural. Yes, not enough to count as a director, but his advice was gold.
In terms of GWTW, I think he directed the Bazaar sequence, and the Melanie delivery scenes with Butterfly McQueen.

I am aware of that. Definitely a great advise, and we can say he influenced the film, but in no way he was a director. Many great films have technical advisors, hands on producers, etc, who never receive any kind of directorial credit. I find it unfair that Cukor receives uncredited directorial credit here simply because he is a director himself.
Also, I think its even disrespectful to him, considering that he directed 50 films, to consider one of his best a film that is not directed by him

very good film, I like it more than Bette's original version.
Kate was fond of the film, and in his memoirs devoted a whole chapter to it, while not mentioning some of her theatrical films at all

                                        It is a pity that
                                        Let's Make Love
is often cited as a disaster, as I enjoyed it very much. The great cameos from Bing, Gene, and Milton Berle; the tuneful score; Marilyn, Yves Montand, and Tony Randall on good form, and Frankie Vaughan singing his heart out. The plot is Swiss cheese, I readily admit, but I just find it great, frothy fun.
As to my other Cukor favourites

                                        .
                                        I also liked
                                        Keeper Of The Flame
, but not enough to consider it a favourite.

cameos in Let's Make Love were indeed great, but they were like 10 minutes out of very long, stretched film with very weak plot, and Yves Montand who didn't try at all
