"I've reached the conclusion that the Irate is a more proficient video game reviewer"
Hahahaha, oh, you're serious.
"no guest stars"
Tony, Ronnie, The Wise Sage, The Genie, Kool Aid Man ect.
"or silly gags"
"I've just been ROB'd"
A whole episode of him locked in a garage while the 'Evil' Gamer reviews.
A big part of his Monster Party review was a subplot that he wasn't invited to an actual party
"as well as more impressive special effects."
What? You mean the same exact explosion he's been doing for the past 3 years? Seriously, he uses the exact same explosion in every episodes. It's rather pathetic.
"But most importantly the Irate Gamer is much more nostalgic"
How? By making fun of games that are actually good? Or how he gets all of his facts wrong?
"reviewing classics instead of unknown obscure games which not many recall from their childhood"
How does that make him better?
And to finish this off heres;
Five reasons why The Irate Gamer should not be watched by anyone.
5.Chris Bores can't act. If you are going to make a show with the gimmick that you sit in front of a camcorder and act angry, make sure that you know how to act. Any small piece of acting would be good. Bores is a terrible actor. He can't even make a convincing grunt while he plays video games.
4.Highly unfunny. If you are going to make a comedy show, make sure that you are funny. Bores does a blend of observational humor and slapstick that have it in common to be unfunny and predictable. For example; When reviewing Tetris in a very bland manner, Bores mentions how addictive the game can be but says that he's not affected, just like clockwork, we are treated to a cut of a black screen with the letters 'couple of hours later' where we then see Bores acting like a Heroin Junkie, sweaty screaming out "I want my Tetris". Not only was this joke very predictable to the audience, but it was done in such a manner that I can't imagine anyone laughing at it.
3.He's not a Gamer. If you are going to make a show about video games, make sure that you can play them. Bores might be a couple of things. A Martial Artist, a Ghost Hunter, a college graduate (at least according to him) but he ain't no gamer. This becomes highly obvious when he complains about how some, if not all, of the games that he plays are too hard, and these include games that six year old kids were beating on their first try. Only eight seconds into Contra, he got killed, which he then blamed on the game, for being too hard. This often lead to Bores cheating his way through the game or playing it on the easiest difficulty level. Which is just plain stupid. He's there to review a game, not skip through it on the easiest setting. Would you watch a cooking show where the cook would simply order take-out because cooking is way too hard? I don't think so.
2.He's not a reviewer. If you are going to make a show where you review games, please be sure that you are able to review things. Reviewing is not really a skill, it's just saying your opinion on something in a manner that most people can understand it, Bores takes whatever game he can get his hands on, talks about it's flaws (like, how easy to die it is for him) and then says it's terrible. He often doesn't bother to go into any detail, with most of his episodes ranging from 2 to 5 minutes in length (with maybe some additional minutes for abysmal acting).
1.RIPP-OFF. The concept of the show came from the much more talented and enjoyable James Rolfe who created the character of the Angry Video Game Nerd back in 2004. After becoming a YouTube sensation in 2006, Chris Bores mimicked him with his show, something that he admitted, although privately to the AVGN Homepage, and has denied since. All comments on YouTube about the similarities are often taken down minutes after being posted and Bores pretty much pretends that James Rolfe doesn't exists, unless he gets pinpointed in a radio interview, where he will say that it's all a coincidence, despite saying in the mail to James Rolfe (that was posted on Rolfe's forum) that he was inspired by his world famous 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle' review, which makes sense, seeing that the Irate Gamer did not only review the exact same game, but he also stole a large portion of Rolfe's jokes, and in order to not come of as a plagiarist, he decided to review the highly popular and well made Konami sequels, which he reviewed poorly, saying that they were just as terrible. Bores has often stolen more subtle jokes from other YouTube NES reviewers, including from the lesser known WizWar, where he stole a lot from his Predator review, including his 'Fists of Fury' punchline and from VideoGamesAreAwesome who did a hilarious dance video with R.O.B. and were badly mimicked by Bores. -

I'm not saying anyone has to like AVGN and of course you are entitled to your own opinion and can be entertained as much as you want from the videos of the Irate Gamer.
I just think it's important to understand that Bores is not an original and that the only reason he's making video game reviews in the first place is because he saw that he could make money doing something similar to what other people were already doing.

And why is that important? As long as he's providing me with some entertainment, I really don't care why he's doing it. If that kind of thing bothers you, you should probably go outside more. These guys are nothing more than novelty acts. -

You can enjoy Bores all you want. But to me it's important to know if someone's an unoriginal hack that steals ideas.
Like with Denis Leary. You can enjoy the jokes he stole - as long as you know that there's a better, original version of those jokes out there that you should rather be enjoying.
These guys are nothing more than novelty acts.
They are both businessmen. But only one is original.

Everyone has different tastes, but I really don't find Bores all that funny or entertaining. I still watch his videos every once in awhile when he is reviewing a game I know. His actual review of the game and the dialogue that goes along with it seem too forced. Also, he has all kinds of gags and special guests although I don't find them too amusing. What is up with that devil guy? It's just not funny. In any case, I mostly enjoy this type of video for the actual game footage and commentary which James takes hands down.

I watched a few episodes of IrateGamer, but ass mentioned before, that bitch can't act, neighter is he funny at all.
I prefer AVGN, I like his reviews and it's just top notch. But it's starting to get on my nerve that he lacks a great deal of imagination when it comes to swearing, it's all just different words for 238beep and piss. Diarea this, and beep that Better buy the guy a wordbook. Anyway, the dude's awesome!- "Faster, faster, faster, until the thrill of speed overcomes the fear of death."

This is just flat out wrong. The IrateGamer isn't more nostalgic! He only got into the reviewing business because he saw the AVGN do it. The Nerd does it because he loves it. The IrateGamer isn't even a real gamer. Also, you mentioned that the IrateGamer reviews "classics". Yeahand he dogs on a lot of them because he sucks at them.
The Nerd is in it for the love of the craft. Everything he does is a labor of love, rather than a cash in. -

Do you now understand the point of the guest stars and silly gags?
James was/is a filmmaker. It's easy to see he tries to implicate that into his reviews. I think it's a pretty smooth move. I mean, if he took the guest stars and silly gags out, what would we be stuck with? Him sitting on the couch playing the game. It's filler but it works.
I don't see how you can say Irategamer in the same sentence with AVGN; let alone think he's better. Irate also uses guest stars, silly gags but I also think his jokes are ALOT cornier. As if his target audience is ten and under. Plus, to say he's more nostalgic makes me suspicious that you're a troll. Irate reviews everything. New, old games and now that he saw James do it, he had to do movies too. The only original thing he did (and I say original meaning not a complete ripoff of AVGN)if those stupid Ghost Hunter videos.
I could careless regardless cause I don't have time for him. Even he knows he's a ripoff. Which is why he disables ratings/comments.

Not only is Irate Gamer gamer a BLATANT ripoff of AVGN, not only are his videos inferior and not entertaining, but he is also a giant douchebag. This is a guy who posted reviews on amazon for his own DVDs, for another ripoff show called Haunted Investigators, but was too stupid to use a different account and disguise the fact he was planting reviews. On his website, y2bproductions.com he refers to himself as a "youtube celebrity". I don't know if that's genuine egotism or compensation for insecurity, but either way it's douchebaggery. That's a label you earn, not give to yourself. On top of that he disables comments for all of his videos on youtube, cuz he knows people are going to post the truth about him at best, and rip on him to end at worst. There's more. He has also made multiple efforts and (I believe) succeeded at some times in getting people banned from youtube who make videos exposing him. It only takes a few minutes of internet research to find out what a piece of beep this guy is. And James Rolfe rules by the way, for more than just AVGN. He has creativity, talent, and passion out the wazoo.

The Irate Gamer has a few decent reviews that are not rippoff of AVGN, but overall he sucks.
He only released 6 videos in 2009, 2 of them were actual reviews and one was for a and classic well liked game (Aladdin on the Genesis). So, basically that leaves a single "Irate Gamer" review in a whole "season" (kool-Aid Man). -

one thing that always bothered me was that most of IG fans talk about his green screen effects all the time .if you read any youtube comments in favour of him (which is rare) they will always be about these stupid tricks .no one mentions his gaming skills (if any) .its like they are all impressed by his stupid explosions.
oh! come on.
first thing about being a critic is you should have a sound knowledge about stuffs which you will comment upon.
if you want to find some quality friends you have to wade through all the d**ks first -

The first time I watched the IG was when he did the Contra review. I could only take him for about 2 minutes. Everything he says is forced. When he cusses its like its all he can do to get it out and it sounds like he has never said that word before in his life and is embarrassed and ashamed that he did say it. He tries to talk the same way that James does but ends up just talking really fast and throwing in some awkward curses here and there. Have you ever watched someone before and just feel embarrassed that you are watching them because of how bad it is? Me, alone in a room watching one of his videos makes me feel this way.
I broke down and watched his review of Jaws on the NES. I used to play Jaws a lot and could beat it easily. Heck I even pulled it back out a few months ago and played it again and didn't have a problem getting through it. First thing IG says is that this game is super hard and that you better not let anything touch you. It's practically one of the easiest games on the NES and hes like having a melt down over the difficulty. -

Didn't the IG send an email to James right when James got popular about how much he admired him and wanted to do the same thing that he did? I remember James posting the email up on his site at one time. I guess if you can't be the original then just lie and claim you had no knowledge of the first shrugs.
