Who's to say she was in costume as Phasma? Sure you may see her face in a sequel but there's nothing to suggest she actually did anything other than a voice in The Force Awakens.

Gwen gave her performance in Captain Phasma's chrome armor. Or so J.J. Abrams would have us believe.
I can only say that Gwendoline Christie is my favorite. She just killed it. You think, Well, what? Its wearing a costume. But its a lot to wear and to have111c a performance when youre wearing that requires a different kind of skill set and an additional talent, and shes got it. Its an incredible thing to work with her. I am glad that a character has been designed that is visually as stunning as that is, because she deserves it and the fans do to. When I first saw that design my mind was blown because it looked so undeniable.

I've seen a video of her in the suit from what looks like it was during production with her helmet off. Plus, she's talked about being in the armor in interviews.

It was obvious that she was in the suit. That was her body. Why even consider casting her just for her voice?

I thought the same, she could have telephoned her performance in. Why did she have to turn up to the set if we don't see her face? Like James Earl Jones was Darth Vader.
She think she is a good actress.
