What if Octopussy and Kamal Khan switched roles?

I was thinking maybe it would have been better of Octopussy were the villain (of course Bond would still sleep with her before finding that out), and have Kamal Khan be an ally of Bond, much like Colombo or Kerim Bay. Have Kahn be smuggling jewels, but then it turns out, he was just being used by Orlov.
And Bond would just take off with Magda, at the end. I think maybe that would have been better cause Octopussy would have been a great villain in a way.
What do you think? -

That's an interesting concept, Octopussy as villain would work for me and at the time (or ever) female villains weren't overused.
But that could eliminate one of the most deliciously delivered lines of the franchise:
OctopooosssyOctopooossy, Octopoosy, Octopoosy.
I really do love OCTOPUSSY as is.

That could have been fairly interesting.
It would have broken new ground at the time, too.
Louis Jordan was a solid actor, but he did seem a bit soft and had perhaps had too good natured a manner for a Bond villian. He probably would have suited the Kerim/Columbo role better. -

I thought it worked out well in TWINE, and could have worked out in OP.
However, if Octopussy were to the villain, that would mean that Kamal would have lead his squadron of guards and mercenaries onto the island and take down all of Octopussy's women guards and henchmen.
If the women were the villains and were all defeated by males, would audiences' have a problem with that?
