Tim Walz has been subpoenaed as part of investigations into fraud, but there is another
September 2024, the end of the endless Summer, the House Education Committee, led by foxy Republican Chairwoman Virginia Foxx, issued a subpoena to Tim Walz and his Minnesota Department of Education (MDE). This was part of an investigation into a $250 million fraud scheme involving the nonprofit 'Feeding Our Future', which allegedly defrauded federal child nutrition programs during the covid pandemic. The probe focused on Walz’s oversight as governor and the MDE’s inadequate supervision.
Fast forward to today, January 20th 2026, the U.S. Department of Justice issued grand jury subpoenas to Walz’s office, along with those of Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, Attorney General Keith Ellison, St. Paul's Mayor Kaohly Her and Hennepin's County Attorney Mary Moriarty. This probe alleges a conspiracy to obstruct federal immigration enforcement, specifically targeting actions taken by Minnesota officials in response to a large-scale deployment of ICE and Border Patrol agents to Minneapolis under the Trump administration.
The fraud-related subpoena was issued by Congress, the DOJ’s criminal investigation is a separate, ongoing federal probe.
