Well, screw these people. I'll be 34 this year and my hair is right down my back. If I want to cut it, I will. If I don't, I won't. My hair, my business. -

The idea is that after a woman gets a certain age, with long hair she starts to look like a witch or an old crone. A yama-uba (Japanese folklore "mountain witch") if you will.

I'm sorry, but to me, after a woman hits like 70, she looks better with short hair. Seeing an elderly woman with waist length, white hair is a little scary. Unless she pins it up. That's just me, though. Strokes and folks.

For that age I actually agree with you over here. They look more elegant that way.
It all boils down to how you wear them regardless of the length they are. Saying that woman of age 40 or even 50 should have shorter hair just coz they have gotten some white in their hair is not right.
My kids doc has white hair. She is in her 40s, has below shoulder length hair. Keep it loose all time and looks very elegant.
