I understand what you were sayimg, but the spell is keeping her alive by obviously freezing her in time, if she is not aging and doesn't need to eat or breath, since she is in a coffin, it stands to reason biological functions like a beating heart are also suspended, meaning a spell to stop her heart should be ineffective. If her heart was still beating then it would have been simple to find her body in a mausoleum as no other human heart would have been beating among the dead, considering vampires can hear heartbeats.

Technically the spell Kai did is Gemini and the last time I checked the twins are his nieces so couldn't they reverse it?
Btw in episode 1 of season 8 someone was after the girls but Caroline stopped her. Do you think this siren diva is trying to use them? Could they bring back Kai??? -

If all they needed was a Gemini witch to do the spell then in season 6, they had 6 and the matter never came up. Not even after Valerie became Stefan's new girlfriend or Mary & Nora became Bonnie's new girlfriends. So there was a time when they easily had 3 Gemini witches as allies and none of these new friends offered to break Elena's curse, making it highly unlikely that her curse is easily broken by any Gemini.
Anyway, another Gemini witch undoing the curse is a loophole & according to Kai, the curse was loophole proof. -

The since this season allot of familiar faces are rumored to return and the main theme for the last season is redemption. What if they brought back Kai to wake Elena and to redeem his character. It would be over the top to think of him returning for a episode or two.

I think that pretty much everything would count as a loophole (which is lazy writing but that's another story). I think what will end up happening is we will meet the devil and Damon will make a deal with him (as the saying goes) to undo/override it somehow so that Bonnie and Elena can both live.

like you said ANY attempt, Kai was a smart guy so i'm sure he woulda thought something as simple as temporarily killing bonnie wouldn't work.
