It's a vampire show, people come back from the dead all the time but even if he is really dead, so what? The actor wanted out of the show and frankly, his character wouldn't be doing anything in Mystic Falls right now, so they just tied up loose ends. It's the final season so one way or another, they need to close up storylines.
I still don't think he's actually dead, it would be kind of a waste to have Damon kill off one of the good guys. I believe this was the turning point for Damon to gain back control. He probably faked killing Tyler so that everyone would think that he's really off the rails.
Which would be worse - to live as a monster, or to die as a good man? -

Yes and there is more Julie interview this week that Tyler has info that nobody from gang has and it will be key
Tylers return is pretty impactful because weve never really explored it on camera, but hes been working for the Armory, as we learned when he took Elenas body away, TVD showrunner Julie Plec tells EW. Hes the one that knew where Elenas coffin was, hes the one that brought Enzo into the fold against his will in the beginning. So hes been off doing that.
And because of Tylers involvement with the Armory, Plec says, Hes remained firmly embedded in the supernatural universe, so hes got information that our heroes dont have, which is pretty key in the moment when its revealed. And theres a great emotional component to his return that ties into all our characters as well. -

He's been gone for like 2 seasons and I never heard people complain that he's not around anymore. But to each their own. It's not that I hate Tyler but there's nothing new that he can bring to the table. Unless of course his death was fake and was all part of a more elaborate plan.

Well, Tyler is important to a lot of fans and for a lot of people more important than Elena.
Right here. I haven't missed Elena once since she left.
I hated Tyler at the very beginning but then he became one of my favorite characters. He and Caroline are the only couple I have ever actually been passionate about.
Why can't you people just sit on clouds and play harps like you're supposed to? -

Plec just pulls beep out of her ass. Like I'm supposedly to believe that Tyler gives a beep about Damon's dumb ass?! His death would have the least impact on the group. He already tried killing Jeremy, Matt, Matt's sister, Bonnie's mom and so on. But oh noooeeess, dun kill Tyler. Everbody gonna hate you for that!! -_-''
