I have asked this before, and no one knew, but it was on TV at least twice when I was a kid.
It was a Western, and I'm pretty sure it was a TV series instead of a movie.
A group of men on horseback are on some sort of quest. About a dozen of them. I can't place any TV regulars on it, but I was thinking WAGON TRAIN, RAWHIDE, or maybe even GUNSMOKE.
At any rate, I think about three of the guys were up to no good. And they were looking for Indians, maybe to avoid a war. I am guessing one of them killed an Indian notable, and a war was brewing.
The first fatality was the youngest, handsomest of the group. He climbs a tree, or maybe a saguaro or Joshua, and he keeps saying he sees something in the distance, getting closer, then slides down quietly, and they find it was an arrow he saw approaching its mark, his body, and he dies.
The second fatality was the half breed who goes in to speak to them. They find him tied to a geyser, where he warns them to stay back, and the geyser erupts, killing him. Maybe it takes place in Yellowstone.
Then, they are surrounded by the Indians, and one of the bad guys draws his gun, and is killed. The others are trapped.
Another bad guy, apparently the worst, panics, tries to get away, and is killed.
The Indians give them a chance to give them the guilty party, and when the white men find it is the one who just died, they are depressed.
However, the last bad guy volunteers to make up for some bad thing he did, and is killed as a sacrifice, to avoid the war.
That's pretty much how it goes. Does anyone recognize it? What series is it from? Or was it a movie? Does anyone know?

Simple question. Hasn't anyone got the guts to answer it?

The episode is from Rawhide , season 2,"Incident of the Haunted Hills". The Indian who dies by Geyser is John Drew Barrymore.

Thank you, juanasept. You are the real deal!
All the others are just "juanasept wannabe"s.
I will look it up and try to view it. Again, thank you.

It was on last Saturday, but because of my work schedule, I was en route between jobs and only caught the last three minutes or so. I could tell it was a landmark episode, though. I didn't realize that the bad guy was the baby Hammond brother who got so many pathetic roles one wonders how he kept his sanity.
I hope it comes on again after racing season, after the Belmont, when I have more Saturday afternoons to watch it.
Now go away or I shall taunt you a second time

Good episode, I can see how the details stuck in the OP's mind.

I remember it. It was terrible and violent, something you don't forget. It was an episode of RAWHIDE which I watched constantly for about 3 years endng 2 years ago because all of the episodes were then reruns of reruns for me. BTW, I thought that Rawhide was an excellent Western and the cast Gil Favor, Rowdy, Clint Eastwood, Mushy, the cook Wishbone, Pete the scout (you name it) they were all quality actors and the scripts were well written and interesting. BUT that one was a little too violent for me. My family has said that RAWHIDE was not violent enough to be a Western, but was more of a historical drama. Hmmm, I don't know, but a LOT of BIG stars were guest stars, like DEAN MARTIN, when he decided at the last minute not to kill one last man to end his gunfighting career. Anyone else have any comments? I really liked it for a long time. Wishbone having a psychological blindness after almost falling off a cliff, but regaining his sight in a fire. Mushy going off with Gypsies. I only wished it was in color. Beautiful country on the trip from Mexico or San Antone to St Louis, at least most of the time. Thanks for letting me ramble on. Judy

(the OP) already knows, and has known for over six (almost seven) years.
