I thought Three's Company was okay but too many episodes followed the 'landlord misunderstands a conversation he overheard' routine.

As the previous poster noted, Three's Company and Family Ties are different comedies and a bit unfair to compare.
My pick would be
Three's Company
.
It's a remake of Man About the House, but I still preferred Jack and the gang, especially when Ralph joined the cast. It was admittedly repetitive, but I still loved the innocence of the late 70s/ early 80s. -

I'd much rather watch Family Ties than Three's Company any day. I like Three's Company, but I can only watch a couple of episodes before I get tired of it. It uses a lot of the same jokes in every episode, and it just doesn't go very far with its characters because it has a limited premise. A family sitcom has a lot more that it can deal with in its episodes, so Family Ties was more interesting to watch. We got to learn and grow along with the family too. That's what really made them so endearing. The only real premise that the show had from the start was that the kids were more conservative than their parents, but it lead to limitless possibilities for plots because it wasn't only about that. I love Family Ties. It's one of my favorite shows.
