I did the primetime soaps had the budgets for high end production, including theme songs: Dallas, Dynasty, Falcon Crest, Flamingo Road, Knots Landing. On the non-soap side, I can think of Miami Vice, Magnum PI, L.A. Law, Hart to Hart, Hill Street Blues, Cheers, to name a few.

Magnum P.I.
was the greatest!
Also thought this should have made a great superhero theme:
The Colbys
They'd never get away with such extravagance (2:22 minutes long!) today!

Knight Rider
is by far the coolest from the '80s. VERY cool indeed.
Family Ties
,
My Two Dads
, and
Miami Vice
are runners-up.

"Didn't he discover America?"
