Malcolm in the Middle was great.
Also Ugly Betty was pretty funny too IMObut the traditioal 'sitcom' doesn't seem to be around much more. HIMYM is a great throwback to the way sitcoms once were - with audiences.

My favorites? Entourage and Scrubs. That doesn't count sitcoms that started in the '90s that went into the 2000s (i.e. South Park).
The ones that will be remembered as "the best?" Arrested Development and The Office. Modern Family may as well.
