Why are they killing off all the lead female characters?

Is this some kind of attempt to get ratings or some other ominous agenda perhaps revenge for female actors demanding equal pay to their male counterparts? In just a few weeks we have the seen the sudden deaths of key players like Laurel Lance (Black Canary) in Arrow, Nina Krilova in the Americans, Abbie Mills in Sleepy Hollow and Elizabeth Keen in The Blacklist.
Makes me wonder who's next Jane Doe (Jamie Alexander) in Blindspot? or maybe even Brennan in Bones?

Don't forget about The Last Ship. They killed off Rhona Mitra.
What's missing in movies is same as in society: a good sense of work ethic and living up to ideals.

Two female leads in the originals got killed off too. Those episodes get big ratings and create new stories around the male leads.
