    The Godfather
is most popular among dorky neckbeards who fantasize about being badass mobsters. Armchair gangsters, so to speak. People who, in real life, act like Comic Book Guy from
    The Simpsons
. I can already tell that that is most definitely the case with you.

Yeah I’m sure the Oscar committee and legions of great filmmakers who have praised the film over the decades are ‘neckbeards who fantasize about being badass mobsters’ 🤣

You mean the same Oscar committee that gave Best Picture to
        Crash
        and
        Out of Africa
        ?

          Yes. I suspect
          none
of them are ‘neckbeards who fantasize about being badass mobsters.’ Not one.

Who else was disappointed in this supposedly great movie?
            You, for starters!
The people who enjoyed the book and saw the movie in 1973 seemed to like it.
            Not everyone did…
I take it you didn't care for this.
Personally, I liked Part 2 even better. It held more background and detail to what had gone on in Puzo's book.
You asked a pretty question; I've given you the ugly answer.
            Fasten Your Seatbelts….
It's Going To Be A Bumpy Night!

At the time, the violence made an impression on me.

I think it's a very good movie. I do not think it's an all time great one. The novel its based on is mediocre.
I think Godfather II is a legitimately great film.

Stars Wars was the movie that woke people up from a lot of crappy early 70's movies that often had bleak, sudden, endings.

I watched it back in the 1970s and haven't had any desire to watch it again.
Some people just seem to go for the mobster/gangster sort of thing.
