Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Epic and Disaster

For those who enjoy disaster movies, the title says it all. One cliche I get tired of seeing is whenever a destruction is happening, a child cries and is being saved. I have seen this cliche in San Andreas and The 5th Wave. I get that children are too young to see why the world is ending in these movies, but not only that, they even scream "Mommy!" or even "Daddy!. Anyone else wanna share some cliches with me?

The character that gets restless and decides to break from the group and always ends up dying shortly after.

There is always a disaster. That makes them all cliches.
You asked a pretty question; I've given you the ugly answer.

The top-billed stars are always alive at the end. Best to have them die in a dramatic finale.

Whenever someone escapes the doom at the last second.
Like there might be a huge fireball and they move their leg out of the way just in time after struggling to move it for the last few minutes.

Male and female lead have some argument, but kiss by the end.

Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt kissed at the end of Twister. Wouldn't that fit this criteria?

When surviving the disaster makes a former couple realize they can't live without each other so they get back together thanks to the intervention of their teenage daughter who is so distraught about the breakup she's acting up at school and not living up to her full potential of following in her doctor/ex-special ops fathers footsteps and the mother doesn't end up marrying her asshole lawyer/cop fiance who the daughter hates because he looks at her creepy when she gets out of the shower and is still glistening wet.
