i binged 4 horror movies from the 1940's today, all were rather short. my favourite of this bunch:
    Cat People
    (Jacques Tourneur, 1942)
this film is wonderful, beautiful, smart, and deeply tragic. Simone Simon is so lovely and touching in it. i'm ready to declare it a masterpiece at this point.
a young Serbian woman (Simone Simon) falls in love with an engineer (Kent Smith) and they marry, but she refuses to consummate the marriage bc she fears sexual stimulation will turn her into a murderous cat (no, not a pet cat, more like panthers and leopards - roar).
one of the most innovative horror films of the 1940s, Cat People not only touches on the Freudian implications of repressed sexuality, but it eschews the usual horror trappings of horror classics. no bloody gore, no monsters on the rampage except perhaps (to borrow from Forbidden Planet) the monsters of the Id. everything is shown through suggestion and a superb B&W shadowy camera work. the most memorable set pieces are Jane Randolph's (as Simon's romantic rival) walk alone home with the feeling that someone is following her and later, her swim in a darkened pool area as she's being "watched".
it's a superb piece of horror cinema and there's no denying that this is a landmark film in the horror genre, stylishly directed by Jacques Tourneur, with Tom Conway, Alan Napier, Theresa Harris and Elizabeth Russell in a memorable bit as Simon's sister under the skin. 9/10
    suck it.

Your review sounds exciting. I guess you really enjoyed that movie. I hadn't seen it yet. I remember watching the remake Malcolm McDowall and Natasha Kinski made sometime in the 1980s decade. I always felt it was a strange movie but not that memorable at all.

          Some cool movies there.
I went through a Fulci phase but still haven’t seen The House by the Cemetary.
I remember really liking the beyond and City of the Dead.
Pretty sure it was City of the Dead anyway, it’s the one where the climax is in that Catacomb.
I just wish some of the moments didn’t go full retard with the cheese.
Worst one was when some kid starts running toward his mum (I think?) and she just starts screaming horrifically for seemingly no reason

yup that was City of the Dead, my 2nd Fulci film after Zombie. i really liked both. House by the Cemetary is also quite good, with a really ****ing awesome finale, which Fulci's films are known for. they all end with an absolutely uniquely crazy ride into madness lol
            suck it.

              Have you seen
              Cemetery Man
(1994)? I think you'd like it. (It's also known as
              Della Morte Dell Amore
              )
