I was just curious as to what everyone thought about the current trend of turning horror movies into TV shows (The Exorcist, Scream, Bates Motel, Ash vs. Evil Dead, Damien, Hannibal, etc.,)
Do you consider these TV series part of their respective film franchises as though they are just another sequel? Or do you consider them their own thing separate from the film series? Do you like the new trend of making TV shows out of everything or would you rather them just make a new movie instead? -

Ash Vs Evil Dead is a continuation, and has crew that were invloved with the movies. It could be viewed standalone, but it prob helps if your familiar with the franchise.
Hannibal begins aa a prequel to the books/films and was initially planned to run storylines for each one, but was cancelled as they reached the Manhunter/Red Dragon storyline.
I like both these series, but then i was predisposed being a fan of the source material. I've not seen any of the other tv shows you mention, and it does feel a bit like the horror-film-turned-tv-show market is getting saturated, but if they're as well made as Hannibal & AvED and don't defecate on the originals then fine i guess.
I suppose the younger generation are used to binge watching shows so its a good way to get a fresh audience for these films.
